| 705125 | 2008-09-14 08:13:00 | Way past my skill level, but switched on my computer running Vista, where the welcome screen was ok, the desktop then looked good, but about 2 seconds later the screen looked like cr**p. Seems it has switched to 640X480X60 Hz. By the look of it, it looks like 16 colour, and it does this every time I reboot. The monitor is a HP LCD W1907 (24 inch), the computer is a HP A6260A with 4 Gig of ram, a 500 gig HDD and windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit, CPU is an Intel core 2 quad q6600 @ 2.4 GHz. There was a very brief message which refered to java, but as I could not read it, I removed Java - just in case :-) I read somewhere here that unpluging the screen for about 15 minutes sometimes helped, but after an hour, nothing changed. The computer has Avast, Adaware and the built in firewall. By coincidence, I had run Avast and Adaware yesterday, but they found nothing of significance, cookies mainly, but they were removed. I'm lost, which equals help needed please. |

| 705127 | 2008-09-14 08:19:00 | Are the video drivers installed? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||
| 705128 | 2008-09-14 09:26:00 | Are the video drivers installed? Well it looks like it. Control panel/system/display/nvidia GeForce 8400GS/drivers and this lists around 31 odd files. Some .exe and many DLL's, and a few others. The Nvidia menu does have a section headed "Roll Back Driver", "If the device fails after updating the driver, roll back to the previously installed driver". HOWEVER I have not tried to update the drivers as yet. In fact I don't think the computer came with a driver disk - but I might be wrong. Will have to look. |

| 705129 | 2008-09-14 09:54:00 | Have you tried right-clicking on the desktop, left-clicking on Personalise on the resultant menu, and on Display Settings in the window, and resetting your resolution (or was this suggestion redundant ;))? | feersumendjinn (64) | ||

OK, looks like system restore has fixed the problem, but thanks for the reply Speedy. |

Damn - no I hadn't. Did not know about that. It would have been easier than restoring back a few days. Maybe tomorrow I will undo the restore point and try it your way. Hey thanks for the suggestion. |
