705072 2008-09-13 22:25:00 I have just repaired (well replaced just about everything in) my friend's PC after a CPU failure - new motherboard, CPU, RAM, video etc.

Question is, PC was running Win 2000 - will this need to be reinstalled after I get it all going again, or will it need to be reinstalled...

if reinstall is required, can I install over the top to keep things on the HDD in place, or will I need a clean install?

If a clean install is required, I have a Win 2000 disk here - will that work with the key on the COA sticker on the PC?

Will Win 2000 recognise a SATA drive?

Mike.

705073 2008-09-13 22:51:00 Run a repair install if required.

BUT depending on how long ago the original system was installed a complete new install would prob be a better idea - start from fresh so to speak.

If the old board and the new board are close enough it may pick up and run OK, but generally they dont - it usually starts then blue screens - wrong drivers etc.

regarding your Win2000 CD and the COA - sometimes it works other times it doesn't, its a little like XP Pro - not all COA's work with All CD's - real case of "suck it and see" sometimes.

705074 2008-09-14 00:03:00 I would install the drive as is. If it boots & runs, install the Motherboard drivers. If this is not Ok do a clean install.

No problem with Sata or Dual processor on Windows 2000.
