704814 2008-09-12 22:31:00 Hi there, i live next to a motel that has an unsecured hotspot
I have two vista laptops that when booted up connect to the motel hotspot everytime without promptingbecause it is unsecured.
I have setup a home wireless secured network, but the laptops need to be connected to this everytime i reboot as the hotspot takes over
I have never seen a "make this your default connection" selection anywhere on my laptops but have seen it in XP and other laptops running vista

The laptops are running vista home premium and basic

Where can i find this?
Thanks

704816 2008-09-12 23:31:00 When you shut down the Laptops are you disconnecting from your secure connection or simply shutting down ?

As long as you dont disconnect it should reconnect to your own - I have a neighbors wireless showing as well unsecured, yet mine connect to my own secured every time.

704817 2008-09-12 23:39:00 It probably is secure. In Vista go to the Connect to a network window that lists Wi-Fi networks and right-click the motels one. Set check boxes as required in there.

704818 2008-09-13 00:44:00 You must have a weird copy of Vista as every one I have set up WON'T connect to an unsecured network unless you confirm that you really want to.

Go into the network connections screen and go to Manage Wireless networks.
Remove the Hotels wifi from the list and it shouldn't reconnect again unless you tell it to.
