472540 2006-07-21 08:14:00 There are hundreds. I suggest you start with a good google search of "Visual basic tutorial". george12 (7)
472541 2006-07-21 23:48:00 If you are using Visual Studio Express, it has inbuilt tutorials afaik.

Check here also: msdn.microsoft.com

472542 2006-07-22 00:29:00 Why the only way for me to start Visual Basic is through Frontpage? Why can't I start it independently? It is not listed under MS Office (2003).

Cheers :)

472546 2006-07-22 04:51:00 JK I think there are dedicated languages based on Visual basic such as

VB for Access
VB for Excell
VB for word .

From my sketchy knowledge on the topic, they have seperate coding for the applications as well .

I used VB6 and VB5, I havn't seen the one before that mejobloggs mentioned, so wonder if its a stripped down free version .

I gather VB is the win98 of programming languages, left behind when Microsoft moved to VB net, which i gather is an entirely different kettle of fish to learn .

Maybe VB net is the future of VB and better to focus on learning that instead of the older versions?

472547 2006-07-22 05:48:00 The one I gave the link to is Visual Basic Express 2005 (.NET2). It is very powerful, and has free video tutorials and lots available. Very Nice.

It is cut down slightly, but you will only notice the difference if you are a large company. To a single person, it is brilliant.

So I hope it will make a compiled exe

Downloading as I type this. I have programmed in GWBasic, COBOL, Assembler and Fortran in the past. I was thinking about making a random number generator for raffle tickets where you put in the first and last number sold and the program will draw up to ten numbers in between. I can already do this in Excel but would like a nice user interface.

This being a stand alone that will run without Office on a laptop or desktop running Win98SE or later.
