another useless beetle thread......
2 questions...... why do we use the net so much? and what keeps us coming back? a what or a who maybe? :D

was wondering for those that work all day on computers, do you use the internet much? for work, for personal use?
im not pointing fingers, or implying anything, just wondering.
we have a net capable laptop at work, which all our teaching work goes on, it does occasionally get used for personal searches but mostly just work. its in a room about as big as a broom closet, and not many of the teachers are enthusiad about comps, and the net ? pffft...who has time.

i actually have no interest in fiddling on that machine??? and trawling the net.... and was wondering why others have to get there fix of a comp or the net? do they not have access at home? or its a habit? or boredom?

i know some people who work on comps all day wont spend free time on them at nite......while others go home from work and switch the comp on or just the screen cos the puter is still running.and all this before the jug goes on before coffee is made..:p

what drags us back here????????? :D

please????????

I use the net so much because there is nothing else to do during study period, after school when all HW is complete and I can not be bothered playing games :illogical

What keeps me coming back? To help people, read all useless Beetle threads :p and just boredom...

Our habbits drag us back here :p

471650 2006-07-18 06:11:00 I work with PC's all day as a Tech/Consultant & yet come home from work and switch it on straight away.
1) I live alone during the week, GF up in the W/E
2) gaming
3) As a member of numerous forum, I find several very entertaining.
4) The NET is much more entertaining than TV even though I have full SKY programs.
5) I download & cut music to listen to in my car
6) To help those not as knowledgeable as I
7) World news when I want it
8) Communication with friends overseas for free with video
9) Gaming again
10) Learn even more stuff

471651 2006-07-18 06:40:00 I like to hear other people's opinions on topics that interest me (as long as the opinions are presented in an acceptable manor)

For me, talking actually requires a lot of concentration, so talking to my work mates during the day wears me down. At night, I don't want a long conversation with anyone, but everything gets a bit boring & repetitive without human interaction. Reading (and occasionly posting in) forums is an easy way for me to achieve that interaction.

471652 2006-07-18 07:01:00 I spend half the day driving around like a maniac, half the day on the comp (real work web based hook up to the orofice), and the other half finding out about the real world out there on the web.... oh yeah- and the other half tinkering with the box until it breaks.

1. I'd rather work from home on a comp than from the office.

2. I like (trying) to help people on PF1 or vice versa.

3. I can't live without beetle's rambles :D

4. I can't live without Metla's polite turn of phrase :D :D

5. I like the idea of having a 'virtual' other place, other than friends and familiars. Nice to know there's something you can switch off when it gets annoying

471653 2006-07-18 07:16:00 I spend a good proportion of my work day on a computer, but most of it is on the intranet and not internet as we run several web-based applications. Only escape out of the work network if I need to research or get information on something. We run a pretty tight ship when it comes to internet access and use, and if it is not work related then you do it in your own time.

I spend a bit of time on the computer too when I get home doing all sorts, mainly catching up with friends via IM, reading interesting stuff and of course learning new stuff. :nerd:

Oh yeah, and I visit PF1 too :p

Wouldn't call it addiction - I have gone a week without checking my emails before! Although I was stuck in some foreign backwater where there was no sign of a internet cafe ... :waughh:

471654 2006-07-18 08:20:00 I use net at work for a type of break from the usual work. Kinda like a smoko. rob_on_guitar (4196)
471655 2006-07-18 09:33:00 Well, I work from home and spend all day on the computer, browsing the Web from time to time when I need to. Then, in the evening I usually do less serious things. I find it more intellectually satisfying than TV (except for rugby, of course).
Last night, I knew within 10 min of the earthquake south of Java and the impending tsunami from an email from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii. I reckon that's interesting. Subsequently, I've seen all the model animations of how the waves propagated from the source and hit Java.
We just got back from tramping in the Pyrenees. I recorded some of our trips on my GPS and entering that in Google Earth and going over where we'd been was fascinating.
Much more fun than TV, but I've got to go now to watch Reunion......
