471927 2006-07-26 12:40:00 I was lucky, the weather and the women were nice

Oh Plod, where was the Mermaid bar again??? ;)

Man, I have never seen so many motels like down in Taupo...
But it was great since I never went that way over in Rotovegas past those fancy smancy hotels and get to pass through Bulls, Palmy North, Manuwatu, Sanson??? And a few others which I didnt mention.

And I found $100 was more than enough for expenses like food & drink as well as bus and tram fares.

Lambton Quay reminds me of Broadway in Newmarket, Jafaville... flash and upmarket looking...

But I will definitely give the LOTR bus tours a miss, $170... fuggedaboudit.

471929 2006-07-26 13:08:00 Phar Lap's Skeletal remains... (imagef1.net.nz)

You have to visit 3 museums to put all Phar Lap's remains together in your head.
Although Wellington has the skeleton, Melbourne has the skin/hide & Canberra has the heart.
I've only managed 2 of 3.

I admit I've not spent a lot of time in Wellington, but last time I visited I swear there weren't numerous vivid green signs saying Copyright Tony Lee 2006!

471933 2006-07-28 11:06:00 That ad on TV for Air New Zealand featuring Wellington suggests you could have an affair. That's what it seems like to me.

I think you will find they are married... well at least in a relationship anyone. :xmouth:

471934 2006-07-29 02:47:00 My favourite activity is watching the planes come in on a windy day .

Weeeeeeeeeeeeee !!!! :p
Mrs Misty and I flew down to Wellington about three months ago . The trip in was very rough and the fog was fairly heavy . We flew to about ten feet of the ground and beginning to give great sighs of relief along with all the other passengers . Then the pilot decided too rough to land and flew skywards again . He then did not have another go at landing but instead flew back to Auckland .

Our plane sat on the tarmac at Auckland for 3/4 hour during which time the stewardesses managed to convince several passengers to stay onboard . Then the pilot came over the intercom and said he was going to fly down to Wellington again and have another go . They had re-fuelled us in the meantime . Apparently another plane had landed in Wellington eleven minutes after our aborted attempt . The chief stewardess said that she had decided not to take on board any food or meals because it would have meant an additional wait of 1/2 hour . They did however bring out free wine .

We flew down and successfully landed . 3 3/4 hours after we had started out .

Have no complaints however as the crew were all really excellent . In fact I emailed Qantas to give my congratulations .

Oh boy, that would have given you a bit of a fright . :D

A similar event happened to my parents at Rotorua once, but it wasn't the weather that caused it, the pilot thought something had malfunctioned so when he was just about to land he took off again instead . Apparently all the passengers gave a big gasp . :p

The pilot circled around the airport until he got reassurance from the control tower that whatever he thought wasn't working actually was so he didn't have to return to Auckland in the end, fortunately .

Incidentally it's great fun coming into Christchurch on strong southwesterly or northwesterly days . If you don't get the living daylights shaken out of you then you get to leave your stomach up on the plane's ceiling when it suddenly drops 100ft or so hitting an air pocket, or whatever it hits . Really good character building stuff . :p
