704694 2008-09-13 00:40:00 Personally I hate laptop optical Drives - always feel as if they are going to get damaged - to me they feel so flimsy - must admit had a lot more problems with laptop optical drives compared to a Drive in a PC/tower case. wainuitech (129)
704695 2008-09-13 02:36:00 I've burned the CD, but now a new problem has appeared, if your still remember, a while ago I started this (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) thread and I now have the same problem, as I have tried to install SP1 yet again. But now, even with the same BSOD the Start-up repair program won't fix it now-says the problem can't be fixed automatically. I tried system restore but it said there were no restore points! I was sure system restore was turned on and I made a few restore points....Anyways, after looking at the log start-up repair produced it seems that the laptop will not boot because of a patch. Can I somehow remove this "patch" or SP1? Also, are there any other options for me?
I'm very reluctant to get a reimage...

704696 2008-09-13 03:15:00 This was also in the start-up repair log:

Root cause found:
--------------------
A patch is preventing the system from starting.

Repair action: System files integrity check and repair
Result: Failed, Error code = 0xa
Time taken = 8580ms

I tried sfc/ scannow in cmd but it said "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

704697 2008-09-13 03:26:00 Just rereading back over the previous Post you linked to - I currently have a customers Dell Vista Business Pc with the exact same error message and stopped at "Loaded \Windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys"

The only way to fix it I could find as it also said it had no restore points, and the recovery section of Vista both inbuilt and from DVD would'nt do much said it found faults but couldn't repair - was to remove the Hard Drive, slave it to another Vista PC then right click the drive/Properties/tools and tell it to scan the drive - it took several hours so It was left over night to run.

This morning it got reattached to the PC, and booted - somewhat shaky, so I redone it again it rebooted and ran through chkdsk - found several more faults and is now running as expected.

You may need to remove the HD and slave to another PC and run the above.

704698 2008-09-13 03:30:00 The only problem is...I have no other vista PC and the other XP laptop I have at home uses IDE(my current laptop is SATA connection)...
If I try the chkdsk /f thing in cmd it says the disk is "write protected or something"

704699 2008-09-13 04:38:00 Correct chkdsk /f wont work - usually only chkdsk /r or /p or chkdsk on its own.

The XP pc not have sata Connectors on the board, as XP will run chkdsk as well ?

704700 2008-09-13 05:06:00 No sata connector-will try chkdsk /r now Blam (54)
704701 2008-09-13 05:18:00 Chksdsk /r wont work either-shows the same error as chkdsk /f

This type of system is NTFS
Cannot lock current drive
Windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected

704702 2008-09-13 05:56:00 Whats the specs of this laptop youre trying to fix?

What update was installed before it stuffed up?

Did someone turn this laptop off while it was installing an update?
