| 472379 | 2006-07-21 03:35:00 | I'm quite happy to pay for it. As long as I can also count on receiving a basic level of medical care when I need it, police turn up at my door when I've been robbed, a fire truck turns up when my house burns down etc etc. |

| 472380 | 2006-07-21 04:33:00 | Yup, I have no problem with paying for it. Heck, look at the abysmal quality of some of the alternatives. For example I watched CSI Noo York this week for the first time, talk about paint by numbers TV with pathetic weak plots and unrealistic sets. "So the suspect has a broken arm, twisted back and cuts" "He can't be walking around with all that, that means he must be ..." "Yes! He must be in the hospital!" Mind you House and the superlative Boston Legal, (Danny Crane!) are good quality. But a NZ station with NZ actors and stories with NZ themes cannot be bad for the country. That Maori have the foresight and energy to put it togheter still doesn't ruin it. Is our own culture so inferior that we immediatly look to American programming? Its just another factor of the cultural Americanization of New Zealand. Thumbs up to Maori TV |

| 472383 | 2006-07-21 05:58:00 | Actually i don't have any problems with any of it :) I watched the Aunties in passing, which is good, as are the cooking shows . I don't turn it on to watch something in particular, but just hang around when channel cruising . Guys, this is New Zealand, the scenes, the accents, the events, its really like opening the window in your air conditioned closed office and smelling the spring breeze . Even on other programs, tonight for instance . . . 8:30 Seven wonders of the ancient world, or 10:00pm Documentary about the experiences of Papua New Guniea villages during WW2 . (which i have seen before and was facinating) I ***** about TV here ( . com/TV/New_Zealand_television . htm" target="_blank">stuffucanuse . com) . Here is the maori TV channel . maoritelevision . com/ . " target="_blank">www . maoritelevision . com How can you be against a station who's philosophy is "What is most important, it is people, it is people it is people" (from their site somewhere) What would TV1's philosophy be? " . . it is money, it is money, it is money" We only come to realise the cultural ambush that has happened to us when we see a truely NZ station up against those that are American or Australian based, financed and sourced . |

| 472384 | 2006-07-21 09:56:00 | Well I switched over to Maori TV briefly a couple of times last night and again tonight. Last night was absolute drivel. But tonight there's an interesting looking doco on some ancient civilisation. I guess it can't be any worse than TV1, 2, 3 etc. (nothing could be worse that C4). If there are less ads than that's definitely a plus in my book. Still not sure why it's called Maori TV if it's targeted at all New Zealanders (as is often said)? How long before there's a TV channel for other ethnic minorities and will they be govt funded? (stupid question I already know the answer). And having programs in Maori is just a reason for more people to switch off isn't it? I think alot of people didn't even realise the basketball was on it the other day as most people have switched off. Shame really but I suppose word of mouth and good programming (like a bit of live rugby with English commentary) will get the viewership up. |

Not that I watch it on C4 because I've already seen in on the internet . Conventional TV is getting kinda redundant these days, at least in my household (apart from the missus who is blindly glued to Shortland St each night :groan: ) |

" . . it is money, it is money, it is money" To be fair, there is a substantial difference . TVNZ is a business and is required by the government to produce a profit . Maori TV on the other hand doesn't have to worry about that . Plenty of money kindly supplied by the taxpayer . |

Ok, there are other language stations but you need a satellite service to access them . I'm not sure that Sky provides them yet . The point is that no other country is going to create a Maori channel . NZ is the only one . Just as no-one else will create a Welsh channel - that is up to the Brits . |
