PCTek - Can you PM me all the details of the computer you were tinking about?

19" LCDs look great in their native res, but I'll have to check out what they look like in a lower res.

471756 2006-07-19 04:50:00 Basically that's junk. When was the last time you found a CRT monitor that was adjustable to the same extent as a laptop screen? Who cares for "spaces" between keys if you only ever touch-type?

Although, to be fair, you could always chuck a nice $10 keyboard on it...

You can get a new PC with 19" LCD for that kind of money. You might need to get it from a custom PC builder (shop around), but there are plenty out there and many can do that price. It won't be incredibly fast, but still something like a Sempron 3000+ and 512MB ram.

The Dell would probably be a good buy if you could stretch it a little bit. Or you could get the cheaper Dell for $998 and add $70 for the 19" LCD. That's for a Celeron 2.8GHz, 256MB ram, 80GB hard drive.

Ok, heres an experiment, Lift the laptop screen 6 inches above the keyboard of the laptop so its in a more natural viewing position.

Get back to me with the results.

Then ask an older person to hunch their hands onto a laptop keyboard.....

Ok. I detached the screen and levitated it +/- 6 inches above the keyboard. Yup, it's now in a perfect position without me having to hunch over it.

I didn't have to hunch over it prior to the levitation experiment though, so what else is new?

;)

Good point. It can then be levitated a la Metla. :D

Can all laptops be used with an external keyboard? A USB connection?

Yep. An external USB keyboard and mouse will work on any laptop made in the last 5 or so years. That's not to say I don't think a desktop is a good idea though.
