704885 2008-09-13 07:44:00 two things to try -

Plug in another USB device into the PC and see if it detects and loads OK
Try plugging the New External HD into another USB port, if it still plays up try plugging it into another PC- this will tell you if its a fault with the PC or a faulty External Drive.

704887 2008-09-13 09:35:00 nerd, I have the same WD drive and it is recognised by the 4 USB connections, If I forget to unplug it and switch on next day, it does the same as yours, just a NEC screen with the F2 key showing at the base line and of course this is dead.

NEC PowerMate 3yr old.

Using it as a backup facility.

Lurking.

704888 2008-09-13 10:20:00 did your HDD work tho? nerd (109)
704889 2008-09-13 10:27:00 I had a similar problem sometime ago, so i took out the HD from the case and removed the jumper pin and put it back in the case again and it worked fine after that. Dont know if this is your problem but worth a try i guess. Does it show up under Disk Management? Maybe its need to be properly formated and a partition to be created first. ronyville (10611)
