| 472725 | 2006-07-22 22:07:00 | Don't worry about it JK. It's not the least tasteful post here by a long shot. I think Laura's got it, people found it out of character, rather than unacceptable in itself. Relax, have a nice day. |

| 472727 | 2006-07-23 00:11:00 | James: Greg's comment about subtleties of English "decorum" doesn't relate to your grasp of the language itself. It implies the manners/thought behind raising this particular subject. "Decorum" is a measure of behaviour. So some people were surprised that you would choose that item to publicise. It didn't fit with their mental picture of you. On the colloquial English front - your response "Oh come on" shows that you are getting into general expressions well. Well... I have nothing to say (with respect to the angelic mental picture of me). Am I really portrayed as "goodie good"? I am... slightly stunned (after all, I am a human too!) :D Cheers :) |

| 472728 | 2006-07-23 15:18:00 | James: I think the perception of someone who is gathering use of the language invokes a certain, shall I say . . . . VIRGINAL INNOCENCE, as in a small child . Please don't think that this means you ARE a small child, and I am not going to post over imputed virginity or lack thereof either . It's just that there is a certain warmth and parental dignity involved by those who speak the language well toward those who have some slight stumbling with it . The mental picture of you may not be a truthful representation of the real "you", but it happens . It is not meant to demean or belittle . So . . . in keeping you "in character" in our/their minds, the true surprize was the content of the article to which you referred, not the person you are . . . . . kinda like a child using a very nasty swear word in front of the inlaws . . . . . . |

| 472729 | 2006-07-23 21:58:00 | JK, Welcome to Kiwiland. You are well on your way to becoming a trueblue Kiwi. Next, you will be drinking hard & swearing. Then you will have made it, joined the club. Took me one month back in 1964, never looked back since. This truly IS Gods Own Country. PJ | Poppa John (284) | ||
