Fortunately, I was rarely involved in media scrums, not being based in Wellington or Auckland.
In smaller centres, you know opposition reporters personally, as there are fewer of them.
Manners are better all around..

I like seeing the scrums...it always brings me back down to earth and reminds me how nice it is to be nobody in particular :D

on the winston subject...I havent had any success finding news reports from the US on this subject, so it cant have made too many waves overseas...dont blame the media for jabbing peters, he's an idiot and attracts that kind of attention

472158 2006-07-20 00:18:00 If finesse, charm, and the ability to have a calm debate are prerequisites then WP is in the WRONG job, coz he is lacking in all of them .

I would like to know what our government ( i use the term loosely) thought they were up to in that appointment . . . . was it just so labour could have their majority? coz they had easier ways to achieve that then putting a little despot like winnie in the position he's in . . . . so just what was helens motive? especially considering that a lot of authorities worldwide question the legality of that appointment, it is unheard of to have a cabinet minister outside party jurisdiction is it not?

Or am I all befuddled, that's the way I seem to remember it at the time . Just to hijack slightly - also of interest is the Taito Phillip Field saga . . . what are everyones impressions on the latest developments

Labour was playing for power - what else do you think the politicians would do? National was doing likewise . Labour was forced to accept NZF, because the other minor parties couldn't play nicely - not that NZF particularly play nicely, but because NZF & UF together could grit their teeth for the sake of a comfy chair and healthy pay cheque, they got the put Labour in power . If Labour hadn't been prepared to take that option, the risk (as they would have seen it) would have been National cobbling together a similar deal (but with ACT in the mix)

The dog's breakfast that was the last election was the consequence of boutique politics and split voting - give people too many choices, and they dither . Give it time, though, and the political spectrum should settle down . I still maintain that MMP is better than FPP .

Labour's motive purely and simply was to secure the support of New Zealand First so Labour could form a government . That's MMP in action .

As for Peters being a Minister Outside Cabinet, politicians and media outside NZ couldn't care less . All they know is that he is a NZ Government Minister and that is all that matters .

Personally I don't like the guy or his politics, but he is intelligent and occasionally says something sensible . A bit like Sue Bradford .

472161 2006-07-20 00:49:00 I don't care for him at all. How he got the job was straight out bribery.

But for once I agree whole heartedly with him. These smart arsed journalists think the world revolves around them. Nice to see them get put in their place.

472163 2006-07-20 06:44:00 Half the time it is only the media that get excited about the parliamentry kindergarten, but they just have to tell us all what they think. wotz (335)
472164 2006-07-20 06:51:00 I thought politicians were supose to lack charm, style etc.... kinda like a prescreening test before they were even aloud to step foot into parliment. rob_on_guitar (4196)
472165 2006-07-20 07:19:00 WP is an arrogant, big-headed prat who thinks he can always win by shouting the loudest.
What a tragedy that the Government has to rely on prats like him to stay in power.
As to the incident in the US I assume he's on something or maybe he needs medication.
