471887 2006-07-19 08:21:00 Hi Bob*. You could also have a walk around Oriental Parade, just beyond Te Papa, and admire the lovely beach of golden sands. And think on how it was all hauled by barge across from Nelson's Golden Bay in recent years. Scouse (83)
471888 2006-07-19 09:23:00 I plan that early in the morning when I arrive and at sunset a couple of hours before I leave... bob_doe_nz (92)
471889 2006-07-19 10:08:00 When I was in Wellington in April, my visit to Te Papa took up half a day - and I'd still seen only a fraction of what was on offer.
I told the local relatives who took me ( & had been many times before) to go home & leave me to it.

Standouts I remember were a magnificent display of Chinese ceremonial clothing (though that may have been touring?), a NZ history sound & light show in a replica of an old store, an "earthquake experience" & the intriguing modern marae.
My time ran out before I got to LOTR.

You may find you've under-estimated how long you want to be there.

471890 2006-07-19 10:13:00 Hi Laura. Agree completely. I was able to shed family and go back on a second day - on the pretext of having morning tea there with an adult granddaughter and her daughter. What did you think of the plated dragon in the Chinese exhibition - and all those magnificent garments and 4-500 year old books. Hats off to the organisers. Scouse (83)
471891 2006-07-19 10:14:00 Excellent...
I'm still gonna give the cafes a miss...
Wheres the nearest Supermarket from Te Papa?
Nothing like a bacteria filled hot roasted chicken to make one feel great.

471892 2006-07-19 10:22:00 Theres a supermarket directly across the road.

Anyhow, I spent nearly the entire day in the Te Papa last time I visited, The Cafe was good quality and imo very cheap.

Hell, I took me mum out for lunch the other day here in Wanganui and it cost $53 bucks.....

471895 2006-07-19 11:04:00 Here we go.

Harley Wideglide 1980
Harley-Davidson, USA
As is a tradition amongst Harley-Davidson owners to personalise their machines, this is a custom built example. Donated by the family of the late Brian Bourke.
1338 cc, V twin (shovel) ohv engine. 88.8 mm bore, 108 mm stroke, 67 hp.

Last of the Shovels, they mated up the Shovel top end the Evo bottem end to get rid of the backlog of parts. Pretty sure it wasn't a 1980 though, and Im also pretty sure it had a big bore kit in her.

For the 10 years or so before the current paintjob it was pearl white with blue flames.

Anyway, Heres to Brian, Hes probally laughing over one of his own jokes at a party in the sky.

Or just seeping into the soil.
