| 472770 | 2006-07-22 04:34:00 | Hi, just wondering what you think are the best earphones or headphones for use with an iPod...I have heard that the Apple ones aren't really up to the standard (ie. new ones make quite a difference). | 472772 | 2006-07-22 04:43:00 | I just use Plantronic headphones. I use them for the audio/mic on the case and the Ipod. And for speech recog in Word and Opera.. It has a volume and mic switch on it. And a mic on the side of it. Its good enough for me. Got them from DSE. $59. |

Sennheiser, Sony, Griffin? get full big-ass headphones. being that they block out lots of noise you dont need to turn up the ipod as much and so is better for you ears in the long term. I got me a cheep DSE pair of head-phones for $30-ish and they have been very good for more than a year. |

Besides which, if you want real sound blocking headphones you need to get something commercial such as DJ's use, and which at the end of the day aren't the best for quality audio. No, the best solution are etymotic (www.etymotic.com/) style earphones, as discussed here (http:). |

I have the latter model and the definition is superb for headphones in this price range. They have a slight emphasis on the mid range, but I like this as it brings forward vocals without affecting the overall tonal balance. These models are headband phones, but there are neckband versions (PMX100 and PMX200) available, although you can't get them in white. If you must stay below the $100 price point, then the PMX60 (neckband) or MX500 (earbud) might be good alternatives. |

I think you can also create a MYSONY account, browse products online and buy, use credit card to pay and wait for two or three days before products arrive. | 472779 | 2006-07-23 09:40:00 | Wow, thanks for all the replies...keep them coming. Yea, the SONY in-ear (etymotic?) earphones seem to get good reviews - MDREX71SL, MDREX81SL. I think I would probably prefer these over more bulky alternatives for the reasons Greg mentioned, although the Sennheiser PX100/200 seem reasonably compact (fold-up) and if they're THAT much better than I might be keen. Is there a large difference between the closed and open style headphones? Also, there must be a point where the quality of the earphone/headphone cannot perform beyond the quality of the mp3 encoding...if you understand what I mean... Any more comments/recommendations would be appreciated. |
