472069 2006-07-19 07:40:00 Anyone have any benchmarks? I havn;t been able to find any mejobloggs (264)
472070 2006-07-19 08:10:00 Running from memory, the HDDs are faster, they run about 11MB/S, flash run at 4MB/S (thats what I get here approx, 40GB USB Lappie HDD, and my MP3 Player)

I am getting a new external HDD I am going to be ordering tomorrow (I hope) should have enough speed :D

472071 2006-07-19 08:23:00 Hi The End Of.... What model are you buying and why? I'm not far off buying one but have done virtually no research on it yet. Thanks. Scouse (83)
472072 2006-07-19 09:28:00 Hi The End Of.... What model are you buying and why? I'm not far off buying one but have done virtually no research on it yet. Thanks. Hi. Note the thingy under my Name... (They call me David :p)

I am actually ordering it now, from Ascent... :D

I am getting a 300GB Seagate SATAII (www.ascent.co.nz) and a Vantec Nexstar 3 SATA to USB 2 and eSATA (www.ascent.co.nz) The reason Seagate? They are the most reliable brand in my opinion. Why the Vantech Nexstar? It interfaces with eSATA (external SATA) so it can have the same speed as an internal desktop HDD and it looks cool :p

472075 2006-07-19 11:02:00 Nah its fine. Hey, i just bought one of them Vantec things a few weeks ago. They look really nice. Even though you can get others less than half the price, i couldnt resist the Vantec ones. I think they are better quality as well.

I got a 3.5" and a laptop hdd one (2.5"?)

The laptop hdd one is great, you don't need an external power source, it runs straight of USB!

472076 2006-07-19 11:37:00 Anyway... Benchmarks? mejobloggs (264)
472077 2006-07-20 02:47:00 Why? The two things have different purposes. What about a benchmark of cars and bicycles?

"Fast enough for all reasonable and appropriate purposes" would be true of both,

472078 2006-07-20 05:33:00 Well, I am looking to compare the differences between external USB HDD and USB Flash disk, and I was also interested in seeing how both of those compare to an internal hdd (which would also be about the same speed as eSata?) mejobloggs (264)
