2008-09-17 02:34:00 | Have come across 3 HP computers lately just out of their warranty and all seem to have the same issue which is it keeps telling them there is no signal on the Monitor and going to sleep. When checked out it is the computer and there is nothing happening except powering up and that is it. Even after unplugging anything there was only 1 that registered that the ram was not there. 1 seemed like it may have had a spike through but no power cuts lately. 1 had a flash drive plugged in to it and it came up all lines on the Monitor and that was it. The other 1 was recently reloaded fresh and when taken home found nothing happen except the power up thing and then finally got into Windows but kept having fatal errors and blue screens, now nothing They seem to be Pavilions. Has any one else had that happen lately?

That's how they design them, the cheapest components possible with an expected lifespan of just longer then the warranty period. :groan: Did these Pavilions have graphics cards? I've seen a couple of the graphics cards HP use fail recently. |

2008-09-17 02:48:00 | Well it's a normally a motherboard issue, there are plenty of things that can go wrong with a motherboard. When you have 20 or 30 PCs failing all at once, then start asking questions... Were these all in the same building?

2008-09-17 02:54:00 | Had a couple of PC's, 1 HP, 1 Dell as well as One of my own Built PC's do that recently - the HP's/ Dell had a 1 year warranty ( just out) - my own built 3 year warranty- (just ran out in June, so its 3 years old) - managed to get all 3 going again - But I suspect it was more of a fluke than a common problem. The Fix - Removed and replaced the CMOS battery - then reset (again) the BIOS back to default. Worth a crack to throw in new CMOS Battery to test each one.

2008-09-17 02:57:00 | I had the same problem with IBM Lenovo thinkcentres, you probably have on-board video. I thought at 1st it was gpc chip failure, however it turned out it was a batch of poor capacitors......check the motherboard for swollen capacitors or even blown ones, you may get away with adding a descrete card in if it has a graphic expansion slot!! | SolMiester (139) | |
2008-09-17 03:22:00 | Tried the CMOS battery and no diff, thought it was the Motherboard but in each case no sign of the capacitors leaking or erupting as they can. Have just found out 1 was just in warranty so they have taken it in so that is good for them. The one on my desk i unplugged the CD drive and looks like it could have been that, just running some tests to see if it will blue screen and not boot up again so maybe that could have been the culprit, you just never know do you. Like you say 20 -30 all failing ask questions, these were all in the same town so obviously coincidence but good to ask sometimes Cheers guys for the replys :)

2008-09-17 04:08:00 | A couple of months ago at work, a large percentage of our HP laptops started BSODing shortly after the warranty had expired. It looked like shoddy hardware at first, but ended up being a Windows update conflicting with one of the preloaded drivers. While in your case it does sound like a true hardware fault, I just thought I'd throw this possibility out there :) | Nermal (7077) | |
