705283 2008-09-15 02:53:00 I hope it's okay to post this here... maybe other gmail users have had the same problem.

From time to time with gmail (Google Mail), if I click Sign Out it doesn't fully sign out. Then I just get a blank screen (or the error that the URL "does not exist"). I cannot access any gmail sign-on screen whether I try through Internet Explorer 6.0 or AOL's browser. Any google service associated with that email account also are affected (example: Google Calendar or the blog).

After the sign-out problem occurs while on IE6>gmail account, I can still see me "signed in" if I use AOL. Before, I could just click sign out (again) on any screen I found "me" still signed in on the name--- and after hours of headbashing, it would release.

Yesterday, it wouldn't release. :waughh:

I *hate* using the blanket form of Delete Cookies under Tools. I prefer deleting JUST the ones I don't need, and keeping my logins for favorite sites.

So, I found a quick fix for the sign out problem when you have multiple gmail accounts. I clicked DATE in the Cookies folder, and (after looking at each one to be sure what I was doing), I deleted ONLY that date's cookies (i.e. yesterday's date-- the date the problem occurred). Then, I could get back to the default Sign In page of gmail.

I don't know if this is important or not, but I left my previous cookies for gmail on all dates prior to the problem.

If anyone has any comment--or further instruction-- about how I did this work-around fix, I'd be appreciative.

As a final comment to others learning how to sort and identify cookies, I made sure to do a Google Search on any cookie-name I didn't recognize. I felt it important to NOT actually go to any of the websites-- instead, I just read the Google Results which will say if the site is a marketing tool (adware)-- You can get a good idea of what's what just from Googling. I only deleted the cookies I could clearly identify. Using "Open With" > Notepad can also help identify each cookie/site. I left the cookies I could not identify and kept the ones I knew I wanted/needed for login purposes.

I hope I've given a good tip to others using multiple gmail accounts.

Comments - corrections appreciated.
