474466 2006-07-28 22:26:00 OK, me friends and myself have been argue....debating about these things:

1.What is the 'eye' icon do when it shows up?

2.How do you get rid of Google search info? Or Why do they keep it?

3.Does leaving your broadband modem on 24/7 cost you?

4.Does surfing the net but not downloading or uploading still leave you with your allocation untouched? (say you had a 5gig allocation for your plan and you dont download/upload).

Confussed? I was after a few beers, whats your thoughts?

474467 2006-07-28 22:59:00 1. No idea what Icon you refer to

2. If referring to Google toolbar search phrases, you have an option to clear it.

3. Cost in terms of power? Yes. In terms of data Yes (small amounts as a "heartbeat to check it's still connected)

4. Everything displayed on the screen when surfing is "downloaded". How else could it get there?

Surfing pages with lots of large graphics, eg photos, etc chew up far more bandwidth than pages with smaller graphics (file size-wise) and lots of text. Also, just being connected to the internet uses up some bandwidth, though not enough to be concerned about.

474469 2006-07-29 00:49:00 Yea, we had a few beers (the 4 of us) and almost ended up knocking each other out.

It was quite funny I thought. The 'eye' icon is the privacy report icon.

But such things everyone thinks they are the end all of everything just because they have had a Pc longer then joe bloggs.

I myself dont know anything unless I can place my hands on it.

But yea its nice to find out the actual ...er...meaning to what they are. :stare:

474470 2006-07-29 00:59:00 1 . I am guessing you mean the 'eye' icon in IE? I think that means an encrypted page, secure page, I have not used IE for a long time so I am only running off memory, it might be the wrong icon I am thinking of, but that is what I think you mean . . .

2 . It is just in the IE cache, if you clear the cache, that SHOULD go, as I said before, I am assuming you are talking about IE and I am not so remembering IE . . . but if that does not work, Google should have an option somewhere . . .

3 . As said before, power yes, but in terms of you data allocation, yes BUT in a VERY small amount, just enough so as that the connection is kept alive, the whole point of broadband is always connected . . .

4 . Surfing, will still go towards it, ANYTHING that goes throught the modem and out into the world uses your allocation . . . and even ANYTHING that goes into the modem from outside will count towards it as well . . . (you are ALWAYS uploading/downloading when surfing the net, or accessing anything outside your PC through the modem) .

Oh and it was not confusing . . . I just hope my answers are not :p

474472 2006-08-01 11:03:00 OK, me friends and myself have been argue . . . . debating about these things:

1 . What is the 'eye' icon do when it shows up?
It watches what you are doing, it was put there by God, and its watching you even when you have the computer turned off . Don't get into any sicko porny sites and KEEP YOUR HANDS ABOVE THE DESK when you are on the net .

Only throwing the computer out will stop the stare . . . .

2 . How do you get rid of Google search info? Or Why do they keep it?
If you send them a self addressed envelope they will mail all their info on you to you when they are finished with it .

3 . Does leaving your broadband modem on 24/7 cost you?
Yes, just like a TV its always doing something when its on . All the internet is being loaded onto your computer when you are not using it . Turns out some senator in America gets the internet downloaded onto hi computer every day! Its happening to yours as well .

When your computer is full of internet it gets heavier, so just weigh your computer to see how much iinternet you get each day .

4 . Does surfing the net but not downloading or uploading still leave you with your allocation untouched? (say you had a 5gig allocation for your plan and you dont download/upload) .

No . Surfing just allows you to slide over the internet really fast like, and so unless you download Microsoft Vista (why?) you are not charged .

Confussed? I was after a few beers, whats your thoughts?
Hope this helps .

Putting margarine on the cable makes the broadband run faster as well .
