473215 2006-07-24 23:43:00 I have Googled and have asked a few friends who use the Rimutaka Hill road from Featherston to Upper Hutt, but no one knows the location of Muldoon's Corner. I am curious since this section of the road will be upgraded. See here (times-age.co.nz) for an article about the upgrade for the Rimutaka Hill road.

From the article and for your amusement:
An almost $27 million plan to straighten and widen the Rimutaka Hill road will be set for approval before three Wairarapa district councils this month. ... Mr Francis said planning would be complete next June for the Muldoon's Corner upgrade that would cost about $14 million as there are geographic and technical difficulties "with the bluff and particularly hard rock – just like the man himself – so it costs more".

It would appear that the corner is on the Wellington side but I can't tell you where it is exactly in spite of travelling that road only three weeks ago in both directions.

Perfect - thanks dvm !

From that web page:

It reputedly takes its name from former National Party Prime Minister Sir Robert Muldoon as tight and to the right, and at $4.4 million for total the project, it is unlikely Sir Robert would have been impressed.

473222 2006-07-25 11:29:00 Back in the early 70's when Muldoon was Prime Minister, the sharpest and tightest corner on the Hill Road was given that name after one of his famous budgets was so tight. He was both Prime Minister and Finance Minister and controlled totally the purse strings. I know ... I was there.

Pity Cullen doesnt have a corner named after him for his 3 year tax cut wait. I guess you could call the whole road upgrade after him ... Cullen's Long Wait!
