705500 2008-09-21 06:21:00 Yes but my technique also tests whether the key will actually work with the disc (ie is it OEM/FPP/Volume).

705502 2008-09-21 06:33:00 Can you explain how that works?

a "special disc" that may need to "use the supplied key" sounds a bit suspect to me.

Is it a corporate edition or something?

I dont see how it can be "legally used several times"

Hmmmm - the disc can be used as many times as you like - its the product key that has the licence allowing how many installs it can be on.

For example take office 2007 home student retail - it has a 3 user Licence, Hence can legally be put on 3 PC's.

And as bevy said - "Is it a corporate edition or something" if so that still has limitations as to how many and where it can be installed - its not open slaver.

705503 2008-09-22 07:43:00 Yes WT - of course I realize an install disc can be used infinitely - I didnt see the need to elaborate on that, but the way he said it - he has an XP pro install disc and...

only ones like that are volume license's and corporate - neither of which are legally distributed.

Dont worry I agree with you fully  - the term "Special Disc'" made me rise an eyebrow too - could be taking it completely out of context - dont know  - theres a few volume / corporate license's floating about as we all know.

Any how back to this original post:
I am just wondering, what are the chances of me if I borrow another Pro version from my friend and install it with my current serial number??? will it work? Some do some dont, if the COA is OEM, and the XP Pro CD is OEM, it may work - there some times can be troubles with the COA not working on different versions Eg key is XP PRO and CD is XP PRO SP1 or 2
