474093 2006-07-30 00:35:00 6 or so weeks ago i got a notice from paradise indicating they were changing their spam policy to "automatically wipe all spam from yr mail box" - prior to this i had no spam in 8 years with paradise - but since the day their new policy came into effect i have been inundated with spam.
got absolutely no assistance from paradise so its time to move camp.

474095 2006-07-30 00:42:00 On my Gmail account, my spam count is 1. A week. :D pcuser42 (130)
474096 2006-07-30 03:15:00 Well, quite obvious, if you type in your e-mail address into Google and it reports positive result, that means that you are likely to be hit by spam waves!

Cheers :)

474097 2006-07-30 03:41:00 I get about 100 spam e-mails every 2-3 days through my gmail account - I use it on the message boards etc, hence the bloat. About 1 or 2 a week have slipped through to my personal Xtra account recently - I suspect it is a filter / image issue, except a lot of the spam messages with images are tagged as spam by GMail. If anything does slip through and you are on Xtra send it to spamreport @ xtra dot co dot nz. I thought that if the spam image is sourced from the spammers server (rather than embedded in the e-mail), then opening the e-mail and loading the image (such that you can see it) will confirm to the spammer that your e-mail address is valid - is this correct?

474098 2006-07-30 11:44:00 We are bombarded with spam everywhere every day, my defination of spam is unwanted advertising. Just watch TV for more than 10mins you will be spammed with all sorts of crap you dont need. Go buy a news paper, I'm sure you didnt want to pay to see all the advertising...spam is everywhere, just put up with it, if you can get your spam blocker to nab over 90% you realy have nothing to moan about.

AYes, this is why I use Thunderbird!! It doesnt load the html/images by default, you have to allow html/images to be displayed for each email Thunderbird thinks is spam.

Thanks for that Rob. I had to ditch T/Bird 'cos the underlying data kept getting corrupted. I just found the settings in IE to prevent this under Tools > Options > Security > Download Pictures......about time on my part......

474100 2006-07-30 12:09:00 I've been getting lots too. Not so much to my Hotmail address but surprisingly quite a bit of it to my Clear address (it never used to get spam) which I never use on any message boards.

I have created a Junk folder & a message rule to have mail from a .com address to go into that folder & that is working well. I have a few friends that send mail from a .com account so that's why I don't have it to delete them.

Not me. Not hits on my email address. But plenty of spam that comes through. About 80 over the weekend.

We just moved to Openhost.co.nz thinking that this would be a solution comapred to our internal mail server with no protection. But sadly disappointed.

Happily, my gmail gets maybe one every two weeks or so. But its significant that something got through gmail.

474102 2006-07-31 22:56:00 I've had a yahoo addy for about 6 yrs and used to get about one spam a year. Lately it's been one a week but I attributed it to a end-user freind who signed up for some psychology profiling test at University of Pennsylvania (as far as we know). She needed ten people to fill out an asessment of her, emailed me asking if I would do it, I emailed back saying sure send me the URL and how I get to your bit but no the deal is she sends ten email addresses and they then emal us. (For a paranoid person it sounds like email harvesting.) Dunno if that's it. mark c (247)
