| 473933 | 2006-07-28 11:00:00 | Recently I compared varios ISp broadband charges by going to their web sites. Slingshot's site was the only one where I could NOT get all prices/plans on one page. In fact, to get info I had to start filling out a JOIN NOW form so I gave up and went on to another ISP. I suspect that in the long run Slingshot is not such a economic deal (although they will of course be better than super rip off Xtra). In the end, I opted for Orcon's $30/month deal (not true fast broadband, only 256/128). You have to pay $80 for a modem but nil other charges. BTW, it is not for me - I researched this for my son who is in AKL. Oh... WorldNet seemed the best deal UNTIL the fine print at the end where they whack on an extra $250 or more in set up charges. |

I think their model of "pick a speed and a usage unit" is quite good - it's all about different products/being a touch innovative rather than just reselling the same old slop dictated by Telecom. Differentiation is good for business and consumers. I love how people say an ISP plans a lot cheaper then Xtras/ telecom it might be cheaper for the lower bandwidth plans / lower upload speeds, but the higher upload speeds/higher bandwidth caps still cost a bit.Alternative ISPs are still largely better value than Xtra even at the lower pricing levels. The added value stuff from other ISPs tends to be much more significant as well. Plus PDQ means = Packet Deprioritisation Queue  :groan: The article clearly states it doesn't mean that, reading comprehension much? |

| 473939 | 2006-07-28 12:01:00 | how long ago was that? 2 months ago. I was on their dial up and had no problems with that either. The service has been better than average, Ive had xtra dial up and was unimpressed, now im on slingshot broadband and its great. |
