| 473279 | 2006-07-25 20:32:00 | I'm guessing it's either not profitable, or just too much cash to spend. They tried in Auckland iirc. It's kind of Auckland's fault for not letting them do it overhead, as underground-cabling a city is rather expensive... My understanding of it was, they were to install overhead where current power lines ran (overhead) and underground where power cables were underground, all perfectly fine to me. I believe this was a defining moment in NZ broadband when the Auckland city council voted against this and insisted all underground, retards. With Auckland the most populous city not viable it made installing cable for the rest of the country not viable. We would have had two competing networks and unbundling would have been a mute point. |

| 473281 | 2006-07-25 21:34:00 | Is it correct that Telstra Clear only offers broadband in the Wellington, Kapiti and Chch areas? | Strommer (42) | ||
| 473282 | 2006-07-25 21:48:00 | They only offer Cable broadband in these areas, however they do resell telecom's ADSL packages for the rest of the country. | somebody (208) | ||

Pity i'm up in AK at the moment so i can't share it with him When my DSL connection (the local excahnge actually) fell appart about 4 months ago and I was lucky to get .2MB on my 2Mb connection in the evenings. I never realised how lucky we were here in CHCH (not everyone) to have a choice, I have a pretty good idea now. |
