| 705680 | 2008-09-16 06:33:00 | OK looking at buying a laptop for my daughter for uni. Are there any brands that we should stay away from? Or for that matter any that are highly reccomended? Basically budgeting on no more than $1000. Makes we're looking at are Acer, Compaq and Toshiba with perhaps Dell in the equation as well as they seem to have some good pricing. Notice we're not talking about any configuaration yet until you good souls comment about brand quality. Over to you peoples. | Clod (7853) | ||

Yes I know Acer have a bad rep and I would not buy one, but not all of their machines are that bad some actually do and continue to do what they say they do. |

I've said it before but I'll say it again :clap I don't know why Acer still have such a bad rep. I personally have two Acer laptops - One is a year old the other 2 years. Both have gone great since day one. My mother and father also have one each and they are 3 years & 5 years old respectively. Also have had no problems with those. Their desktop machines aren't great - wouldn't go near those although their small form factor Veritons are OK (Probably because they are basically a notebook without a screen.) Their laptops did go through a bad patch about 8 years ago but they have come a long way since then. In saying that I prefer to sell Asus or Toshiba but if there is not one available that fits the customers needs (or they are out of stock) then I will look at Acer. |
