| 473923 | 2006-07-27 03:04:00 | All the ISPs except Xtra seem to have stopped giving out free routers with new connections. This makes it very difficult to convince people to sign up with an ISP other than Xtra. Why did they all stop giving out free routers? If it is too expensive, why do Xtra still do it? |

| 473924 | 2006-07-27 04:59:00 | It is not free, Xtra plans are $10-20+ more expensive than other ISP's equivalent plans, so within 3-4 months you are paying through your ass (compared to other ISP's) and stuck on a 12 month contract you will need to pay $99 to get out of once you realise there are much better offerings around. Unfortunately people think like you and Xtra keeps racking it in. |

| 473926 | 2006-07-28 03:39:00 | www.telstraclear.co.nz New DSl plans today from Telstra includes a " free " modem. unfortunately these plans ARE a lot cheaper than Xtra so it will take longer to empty your wallet ;) " I joined xtra because its easier " " I joined because they offer good service' " I joined becuase they have neat TV adds' " I joined so I can have it all on the same bill' All bollocks! there is NO good reason to join Xtra they are not competitive, rant over! |

| 473927 | 2006-07-28 04:10:00 | New DSl plans today from Telstra includes a "free" modem. unfortunately these plans ARE a lot cheaper than Xtra so it will take longer to empty your wallet ;) With TC you have to pay for the speed you want & the bandwidth you want to use which sucks, don’t know why they can’t just have a mix of speeds & bandwidth, like the rest of the ISPs plus TC do not downgrade you to dial up speeds once you go over 10 GB or 1 GB, so I guess once you go over 1 GB or 10 GB it will cost you more. I love how people say an ISP plans a lot cheaper then Xtra’s/ telecom it might be cheaper for the lower bandwidth plans / lower upload speeds, but the higher upload speeds/higher bandwidth caps still cost a bit. | 473928 | 2006-07-28 06:38:00 | Verizon gave me a free router, Cat5-e cables, USB2 cables, power supply, the necessary phone filters and no caps/limits for a very small ISP monthly fee coupled to my phone service . If one does not buy the limited DSL from them, the sky's the limit on what they'll do to please you . This week, they are cutting up my street to replace the 5-pair drop from the hub that has been slowing my speeds to 3 . 5M . I also got a 6-month rebate for the loss of line continuity . . . how's that? I imagine it's gonna cost a lot of US$ for the repair . . . but they are doing it for me as the customer on this end . I was concerned and replaced all the interior wiring in the house in case they thought I was the problem . . . but I wasn't . |

Well I am on the xtra pro plan which is 3.5/512 10G and has no term on the contract. This costs 79.95 and I get a free static ip and 30mb webspace. The comparable plan from TC costs 77.95 and does not say anything about extras, so I would call Xtra pretty competitive heres a clause in the other things you need to know about pdq (taken from the webpage) TelstraClear's PDQ Broadband plans have a minimum term of 12 months. If you cancel your PDQ Broadband plan prior to that, you'll be charged a cancellation fee. and it seems that as they only give you a $50 credit towards connection you still have to pay $49 out of the $99 connection fee (if you dont already have broadband with another isp) |
