| 706745 | 2008-09-21 08:14:00 | Hi I have a Compaq Evo desktop machine here and it needs a reinstall of XP. It has a legit XP Pro COA attached to the case but unfortunately I don't have any XP Pro media that will work with that key. I have tried both an OEM and Volume License disc and both times have received the 'invalid license number' message during install. If anyone can point me in the direction of which disc I should be looking for that will work with the attached COA (or even better if anyone actually has one lying around PM me) I would be most grateful. Until then this machine will continue to be a paperweight! Thanks. |

I have at least 4 different XP Pro CD's - when I have to reinstall a customers PC using their product key and they dont have the CD its really hit and miss as to which one works. |

Same with Home too. |

| 706750 | 2008-09-21 10:12:00 | I have never yet had a customer with a full retail copy of windows XP - they mainly OEM, a few VLKs & only one or two upgrades | Greven (91) | ||

Thats all true - but as mentioned not all XP pros work with every COA - two of the workshop PC's Both have XP Pro , both OEM, the COA that works on One CD wont work on the Other. |

| 706753 | 2008-09-22 05:38:00 | Man these COA's aren't up to much on the wear and tear side. Some of the writing has worn off round the outsides! Anyway - under the product key there is a small barcode and directly under that is the following number: 00045-423-347-994 Does this mean anything? The COA states as the heading Windows XP Professional 1-2CPU (at least that is what I can decipher from the worn out text) and there is something written under it which I presume is Compaq or HP given the machine is a desktop Evo. There is another number in the top right quadrant of the COA but too much of that has been worn off so I can't read it. And along the left hand edge running vertically is the number X08-73060. Can anybody shed any light? Cheers. |

| 706754 | 2008-09-22 05:53:00 | Once before I had a problem with MS not believing me the product key I gave was in fact legit - It was or was a damn good Copy. When I called MS they asked for the X Number that runs sideways on the COA - the guy put me on hold and when he came back said its fine and proceeded to give me a new 42 digit number - the X Number he said was a cross reference to the 25 digit product key.:confused: prob wrong, but I suspect its something like a batch number ??? How many digits are unreadable ? |
