706100 2008-09-18 07:21:00 I (finally!) got a USB wi-fi adapter. I was going to use it on my Windows 98 test pc and laptop, only to discover that Windows 98 doesn't support WPA (our wireless network is encrypted).

How can I connect to our network on 98?

706101 2008-09-18 07:34:00 Try this (www.netzwerktotal.de)

Its a german site, but its meant to work

It may or may not work with 98 (carbogno.net)

Normally, 98 doesnt support WPA

706102 2008-09-19 04:36:00 Hi, SG.

I'm willing to have a crack at it (www.netzwerktotal.de) if it gets WPA working in conjunction with Win98. However, my German isn't flash, and I don't see a 'switch to English' link on the page. Any ideas, apart from cut n pasting each comment into a translator? Cheers.

706103 2008-09-19 04:42:00 No excuse to have a Win98 PC anymore......not surprised WPA isnt supported, the O\S hasnt since last year? SolMiester (139)
706104 2008-09-19 04:43:00 Just download the file on the site

Where it says Mcafee wireless security installer

Dont worry about reading it

It shouldnt be that hard to configure, once you install it

I was going to use it on my Windows 98 test pc and laptop...

My laptop is about eight years old and so is the PC.

Now there's another problem - the McAfee software won't detect the USB stick. :(

(Why is it that whenever I post a problem in here, it gets even more complex? :groan:)

706107 2008-09-19 05:22:00 Is it 98 or 98 SE?? If SE, this might help (support.microsoft.com) Speedy Gonzales (78)
706108 2008-09-19 05:32:00 I'm trying mine (getting Win98 to work wirelessly with WPA) now. I'll post how it goes. Cheers. A Team (13613)
706109 2008-09-19 06:31:00 Hi, Patrick & SG.
I have tried a number of remedies before now to get Win98SE working wirelessly on my (old dunger) Tecra 8000 laptop with WPA security to no avail (and had read and been advised that Win98 doesn't support WPA security). However, using the program available at www.netzwerktotal.de it is working a treat.

Thanks to Patrick for raising the issue, again.
Thanks to SG for finding the solution.

To all those forum goers who've been trying to find the solution, there is hope!

Cheers.
