Our pings degrade to about 400ms, and we both get disconnected from the server. This also happens whenever I use the network to steal files from him. My computer is wireless, and I'm wondering if this is where our problems lie. At the moment we're using one of these (catalog.belkin.com). (I think... not at home, but it looks the same...) |

| 706087 | 2008-09-18 21:46:00 | There are just the two of us. My comp is one one side of a wall, and the routers against the other side. My flatmate is connected directly to the router, and whenever I connect to steam his pings start skyrocketing too. So it seems it's not just a wireless thing? Given that he's hardwired to it? Wireless is the only way as far as I'm concerned. I'm not running an ethernet cable between rooms, and I'm not putting any holes in any walls. If I upgraded to a better router would we get any better pings? Or is it just a matter of only having one of us on at a time? |

| 706089 | 2008-09-18 22:35:00 | Check out posts from me in the past regarding Belkin Routers - the problem you mention is actually a common problem experienced by a lot of people. In short, my Router problems and disconnects stopped the day I threw the Belkin out. By the way, any of the guys on this forum wanting a Belkin router free? It's sitting at home gathering dust, it did not work for me (see previous posts) but who knows, you may be lucky. sarel |
