| 475229 | 2006-08-01 22:30:00 | :) I have just purchased the August issue of NZ PC World. On page 6, where I had a first look, I noticed that Avast antivirus program was featured. One of the things I appreciate about the monthly CD ( or the occasional DVD) is the ability for me to keep my browser and email programs up to date. It is far quicker than to use my 56 k dialup to download the latest versions of Firefox and Thunderbird. I should add that the only OS here is Xandros and thus I appreciate that these two programs come with Linux versions each month. It was a pity, therefore to find that both Avast and AVG came only with .exe versions. I know that both put out a Linux version. Would it be possible to have these included on future CDs? Some Linux operators question the need for antivirus protection at all. I have installed AVG for Linux Workstation on an earlier version of Xandros. I do it mainly to keep my friends who might use Windows safe from any emails that I send them. When scanning my own system, I set it to scan only the /home/jim partition as I understand that, when on line, this is really the only part that is accessible. Early this morning, I tried to send an email about the above to mailbox@idg.co.nz It was immediately returned as undeliverable by some spam control system. Jim |

| 475230 | 2006-08-02 03:12:00 | Good point - the Sept DVD has already gone to replication but I'll endeavour to slip Linux versions of Avast and/or AVG on from now on. | Biggles (121) | ||
