2006-08-02 11:08:00 | The points of these "rants" is that poverty is a state of mind that almost any adult can escape unless they are afraid of leaving a comfort zone at the bottom of the heap. I have seen more of my friends do this than i could ever quantify. The other point is that poverty is no excuse for beating ones child to death. That's nothing short of severe mental illness, and that effects all social economic groups.

2006-08-02 11:48:00 | Show the parents the wrongness of violence by using violence against them? Don't know their backgrounds, but I would bet they had violence against them when they were young . So they thought it was quite normal to beat the little one to death . Violence begets violence begets violence . Who cares? The parents didnt . If thats the language they know then maybe thats all they will listen to .

2006-08-02 12:37:00 | So what is being said in essence is that some people are just born bad? That the system is not stacked against a proportion of citizens in effect so that the ones at the top can just play the game of getting more and more and feel that those who cannot claim their fair share have just not tried hard enough, and have the added bonus of looking down on all the so-called failures, buffering themselves from the workers by enabling a bastion buffer of small businessmen, who are indoctrinated with prejudice against the struggling disenfranchised. All the small businessmen who comprise a large part of the population are just pawns in the game, unaware of the big picture because it benefits them not to see and acknowledge it, and are complicit in the fraud as far as I am concerned. It is called divide and conquer and along with bread and circuses has been used since Roman times to manipulate the population, so much so that it is now entrenched in our collective psyche. Spew.

They'd do it if they worked too . Second, its not always a simple matter to get a job . Not all people receiving one are doing so because they love it, some are doing it while they TRY to get work . Which can sometimes take a while . Quals or no quals . There is a reason so many people live in Auckland, and the rest in main centres, thats where all the jobs are . Tough luck though if you can't afford to live there . |

2006-08-02 21:48:00 | Who cares? The parents didnt . If thats the language they know then maybe thats all they will listen to . Only if it's taken to the extreme where you kill them can it have the effect of ensuring that that don't do it again . So what is being said in essence is that some people are just born bad? That the system is not stacked . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I would say that some people are born bad, but very very few . Some are born disadvantaged, but they make the choice to grow, in whatever direction . The choice is there's, and there's alone, although we as individuals can sometimes give people a nudge in the right direction . While not all cards dealt in life are favorable, it is up to the individual to choose the direction of growth . All this blaming the govt for individuals who stuff it up big time just allows them and others to resist taking responsibility for there acts . This is a country where we do not require a breeding licence . It is therefore the parents responsibility to do the best they can . Unfortunately, some have no idea . This can create problems . If we wish the govt to be responsible, then the solution is clear, but too politically incorrect . Those wishing to breed will require to get a breeding licence . Those who seek such a licence will have do do courses, and show some idea of what is required when tested at a later date . Unlicensed pregnancy will be be dealt with by compulsory abortion and a hefty fine and a jail sentence for repeat offenders . If this seems less then desirable, perhaps we have to except the present system where people breed at will, and are expected to be at least partly responsible for their children's well being .

2006-08-02 22:15:00 | Another ancient and effective means of controlling the hoi poloi is to get those in the middle to beat up oin those at the bottom. This provides them with an easy and accessible scapegoat for their own frustrations. Much evidence of which we have seen in this thread. This allows the manipulators to laugh all the way to the bank. Kinda sad, all this righteous bile.

2006-08-02 22:41:00 | And on the topic of poverty = child abuse, may i point out that there is a truck load of money obsessed parents who have children who become nothing short of spoilt useless brats because money is thrown at them rather than the parents valuable time? Such children often end up failing to deal with life . May i recall a new item i heard on the radio while travelling to the far north? A group of nutters who misuse the name of God to justify their nuttiness suggested that 15 minutes of punishment a day was an apt way to bring up children, a kind of preventative maintenance type thing . These people were white, "christian", and well moneyed . They were also nuttier than a peanut farm . So i have a suggestion where stereotypes can be shoved, and the assumption that poverty somehow justifies or creates child abuse can be shoved into the same boiling star .

2006-08-02 23:05:00 | It has nothing to do with the government or social policies, Its the work of the parents . End of story . If you treat your kids with resentment, fail to provide for their needs and teach (damage) them with violence then they will most likely inflict the same crap on their kids . Throw in the separatist crap that NZ is so big on at the moment and the problem explodes . You have a generation of young adults taught to hate the system and to resent their kids . I don't care when or why the issue started but the responcility to break the cycle starts and ends in the home . Forget the schemes, the money, the greviences, the "cant tread on anyones toes" crap, Face the freakin issue and deal with it . People need to take responcibility, The people doing this crap don't care in the slightest about the harm done, or the do-gooders that think they can fix it with a tear in their eye and a hug . They spit on you all .
