706116 2008-09-18 08:29:00 Is it possible to obtain updated drivers for most devices on a PC "free of charge", or does one have to register with a 3rd party and pay a nominal fee to obtain such drivers?

A quick scan of my PC by Driver Detective (a free download) has indicated that I have several out-of-date or missing drivers.

Is this programme just a guise for me to pay for what otherwise may be a free service?

706117 2008-09-18 08:39:00 It is a scam-the software just charges you for the convenience of installing all the drivers for you, ususally drivers can be obtained from the vendor's/manufacturer's site for free Blam (54)
706118 2008-09-18 09:25:00 Hi

Get rid of Driver Detective. Download and install DRIVERMAX (http://www.drivermax.com/). Free to download, free to use. Wot yah got to lose? :banana

DriverMax will download, update and install your drivers for you. But wait, that's not all, DriverMax will allow you to export your existing drivers to another file or CD, (great if you need to reinstall your system). It will import the driver file back too. In addition, DriverMax will print a driver report so you know exactly what drivers you have and what version. It will identify unknown devices. The list goes on ... Think you get the idea. DriverMax is a great program and every good computer should have a copy. :clap

Apologies in advance if this sounds like spam but I can assure you my only interest in DriverMax is it takes the hassles out of driver updates etc. :punk

Hope this helps

706119 2008-09-18 13:46:00 Burnzee. I take it that you run Vista!
Because "DriverMax" won't do updates on anything else.
But ... They are working on it !!

?

So? Don't fix it unless its broken.

The only driver I ever change now and then, is my graphics card driver.
You don't need a new sound, lan, chipset, whatever driver unless theres an issue with the existing ones.
And you always get them from the manufacturer of your hardwares site.
Nvidia, ATI, ASUS...whatever.
Free.
