I have today successfully installed my new DVD burner, and shock horror it works? !!!!!!!

after a few dramas, like the cd burner was not able to be moved after all...........sigh......... and jumper settings ??? what i say? needed to be changed... more than once it seemed.
power on and off and go online and ask for help, and sort it out, and man it works well..............only prob is i dont have any dvd disks.......lol to start saving all my special photos.....:D

so i learnt how to take a comp to bits, not touch anything dangerous. metal and beetle ...lol not usually a good mix i understand????? :p and put not only one but 2 burners back into place so to speak...... and work out wires, power, ide cables, and installed nero so all ready to go.
i see now i will have a new set of questions......... to drive people nutty.

but i am the proud owner of a new ASUS DVD burner, which i put in.........me :D

And i also have to thank the following pf1 people.....for there unstinting help.

pctek, personthingy, end of reality, with out these people it wouldnt of happened....
and also mum and mets for my nagging about it in the past....

i am so proud of myself................:D i did it............
i may just be a geek yet........

Ah? Why can't it be moved? Of course it could. In fact removed would have been the easier option.

476242 2006-08-05 10:52:00 Ah? Why can't it be moved? Of course it could. In fact removed would have been the easier option. If it was anything like the old CD burner I had (and I was fitting just an ordinary drive for on-the-fly) the burner had to go at the top because it was just a bit too long. If put in a lower slot, it would
touch the RAM (this was back in the didn't-know-what-the-heck-I-was-doing days)
