475926 2006-08-03 17:08:00 I personally like Tom Waits, but I admit that his style takes a little getting used to.......He has been on Sesame Street, and was in cahoots with Shel Silverstein as singers/writers of a lot of semi-blues music for a long time.

Try to listen thru this singing of a (for youse guys) local ditty....www.youtube.com

I also have an interview on Dave Letterman's show that he did a while back......you might want to listen to him before he sings...it might make you wonder a lot....www.youtube.com

Only if you call about 1300 miles across water "local". Not to mention the cultural divide ... (collabah trees, jumbucks, sqautters and troopers -- its another planet over there).

475930 2006-08-04 08:20:00 I like Tom Waits a lot . You tube isn't working properly right now, but IIRC the waltzing matilda track is from his album 'Small Change' .

'Goin' Out West' is probably my favourite song, from 'Bone Machine' . 'Rain Dogs' is a good album to start with I think .

I think he's doing a tour in the states very soon, kinda gutted I'm not there .

Hey, Bruce . . . give me the "local" part for the next hemisphere, quadrant or even compass direction .

I know youse guys don't associate with the big islanders . . . but they are in the same corner of the world as you for us yanks (the noun, not the verb) .

We get called "North America", but that includes Mexico and Canada too . We only complain when they include Quebec in North America .

475932 2006-08-04 22:28:00 Bruce is right Joe . You need to swot up on the cultural differences between us and them over the ditch as they are nothing like us . The other day you had us playing didgeridoos, something which we definitely do not have here . :stare:

Nor do we have koalas, black widow spiders, snakes, crocs, kangas, etc etc etc . . .

And we most certainly do not have that ghastly Waltzing Matilda ditty either . . . :xmouth:

475933 2006-08-05 12:47:00 Isn't half of NZ owned by them over the ditch, including the banks, or as the ad on TV says "Those other *bankers* over there"?

Heck, they gave us thongs (of several different types), prisoners they didn't want around to populate our barren shores...um, can't think or anything else useful that they gave us, but we should still be grateful.

Don't blame SurferJoe, last time I was in the States no-one knew where NZ was and I avoided being left in jail for a whole night because the kind policemen thought I was English. :p

475934 2006-08-05 13:17:00 Tom Waits is realy cool. I particularly like,"My piano is drunk again." Better'n anything G .Bush has ever done. :hope: mark c (247)

In an era of kindness, all US citizens are to give Englishmen special treatment .
It has been so ordered .

Our token resident New Zealander passed away a few years ago . We are still looking for a replacement . . . male of female .
