707149 2008-09-23 06:32:00 Basically, I can't get audio to work in any which way. All my audio settings are turned on and my cords are not the issue. System sounds don't play, etc... No media player, nor dxdiag finds an error aside from the fact that I click no when it asks if I heard the sound played. My device manager does not find a problem with my driver settings.

I'm pretty sure I'm using an onboard Legacy audio device, which is enabled in the bios.

The only odd thing I can think is this... With my headphones stuck into the audio jack, I can hear a faint static noise in the background, presumably just trace electricity running through the device to the headphones. If I mute all sound on my computer, that goes away.

Also, I had recently installed Warhammer Online for the Stress-Test, and had played through the beta. Though errors could have somehow been caused by that, no one else on common forums have encountered direct problems like mine.

Hope you can help shed some light on the problem!

707151 2008-09-23 07:01:00 Are you saying it did work and since installing Warhammer Online it doesnt?. SolMiester (139)
707152 2008-09-23 15:46:00 The audio worked during some of Warhammer Online . I don't remember the exact moment I lost my ability to play audio, I'm pretty confident it was while playing the game, with no error message played . This is why I suspect, but don't utterly blame the game for the mysterious audio disappearance . Since then the game's been updated with numerous patches and switched over to the full release version .

As for the other question, I'm using XP pro SP2 - and yes, the audio has worked for over a year :P .

707154 2008-09-23 19:10:00 Have you tried updating the audio drivers? gary67 (56)
707155 2008-09-23 21:41:00 Have a look in the Control Panel/ Sounds and Audio devices/ Under the Audio tab, see what the default Playback Device is saying - it should be your Audio Drivers - Example only: Realtek AC97 Audio.

If it is then do what Gary67 suggested and try updating the Audio drivers.

Sometimes you have to actually uninstall them, and then put them back in.

707157 2008-09-23 23:35:00 Have you tried system restore? Agent_24 (57)
707158 2008-09-24 00:09:00 I would recommend downloading drivers from the manufacturers site and run setup. If it still doesn't work, you're in trouble. sammo450 (13626)
