706932 2008-09-22 08:20:00 Hi guys
i have put a nvidia 5600fx on trademe and someone has asked me if it has T&L and is it direct x 9.0 capable but do not know the brand of it or anything about it really (apart from info on the auction) so i cant really find out. If anyone knows or can at least identify the brand then that would be much appreciated. Please reply ASAP so i can answer the guy. the auction link is www.trademe.co.nz
Thanks

706935 2008-09-22 08:37:00 What's T&L? All I know is that it's a piece of crap, only ever so slightly better than an FX5200. I think it pushes around 1000-1600 MTexel/pixel per second and has a memory bandwidth of about 5-6.4GB per second if memory serves. qazwsxokmijn (102)
706936 2008-09-22 08:53:00 T&L: T&L is an abbreviation for Transform and Lighting, which is one of the primary stages of 3d rendering. T&L is also one of the most computing-intensive, so off-loading this function to a video card is a huge improvement for games that require high numbers of polygons on-screen. The Nvidia GeForce256 was the first consumer level T&L 3d chipset on the market. Quoted from gamer to English Dictionary (www.thehaus.net)

Just one comment / correction regarding what was written in Trademe
i have run it with vista home basic but it did not support the aero themes - the 5600 will support Vista Aero, I had a FX5200 in a workshop PC and was given a 5600 and the Aero is fine on both - its Vista Basic OS that doesn't come with the aero.

Regarding what Brand - have a look on the back of the card there is usually a sticker with a series of number/letters that sometimes helps in finding out who manufactured it.

706937 2008-09-22 09:15:00 Anyone interested only has to Google FX5600 to find out the specs, it's all there.
Good luck with the price though.

Type the code in here
www.fcc.gov
and it should tell you who made it, and when and where.
This page may have the specs you want, check the PDF file (lower left). www.nvidia.com

706939 2008-09-22 20:42:00 the nvidia FX5600 is a directx 9.0a graphics card wiuth support for pixel shader 2.0a and vertex shader 2.0a.
it was generally out performed by lowerend ati cards of its generation and by previous generation nvidia cards.

as for T&L, you would be hard pressed to fine a card that doesnt support it.
its been supported since before the TNT2

Thats not very helpful especially in light of your new venture as a Tech.

Take a look at Wainuitechs reply for a proper response - if you don't know - look it up - if you can't be bothered doing that, then leave the responses to someone who does.
