477316 2006-08-09 03:06:00 It's way past time I got myself a decent new mouse. And after reading about a dozen sites I am getting a bit bemused. Seem the best mouse is always the one that individual resellers have in stock.
I want a CORDED mouse.
What are laser ones like? Any good?
I think I would like one with buttons on the side. I have trouble with clicking the right key with the conventional mouse.

My current mouse is a six year old Logitech IFeel scroll mouse. It's lost it's colour and the feet have worn off.

So let's have some suggestions

477317 2006-08-09 03:26:00 I'm with you Jack, same brand, same age, and I find that it doesn't have the resolution I need for fine movements in some programs, though I fear that might actually be a program issue rather than the mouse.

I shall watch the progress of this thread with great interest. :D

477318 2006-08-09 03:51:00 I use a Genius optical (laser) mouse. It's got two extra buttons on the right hand side, and the scroll wheel acts as a sixth button (like most scrolls do, I imagine). I had a quick check, but couldn't find a link to a reseller for this particular model. I've had no problems with it - games, general Windows use, a little casual photo-editing - it's a good all round mouse. I had a Genius ball mouse prior, and it was also fine (except for the ball, of course - optical all the way now...)

I've also used a DSE-rebranded A4Tech mouse which was alright. It's got more buttons than you can think of uses for. I did have a couple of problems getting it to work on a USB port on an older (Win98SE) computer, but using the PS2 adapter it was fine.

477319 2006-08-09 04:00:00 I just have a cheap Microsoft Optical Mouse I was given at one stage - works great, and is really comfortable to use. somebody (208)
477320 2006-08-09 04:01:00 Personally I don't like wireless mice, mainly because they burn through batteries when you are working with them all day, every day.

Also, the last Genius mouse I had that was wireless insisted on installing it's own software...which seems stupid given that it's just a mouse.

I use Microsoft optical mice at work and at home. They don't feel cheap, look good and just do the job.

Just like me. :nerd:

477321 2006-08-09 04:02:00 Logitech!
They do both optical and laser in corded.
Several with masses of buttons.
I have an MX510 (superceded by the MX518 now), it has scroll wheel, scroll buttons, and 2 extra on the left side.
All are programmable to whatever you like.
Has a 3 year warranty too.

477323 2006-08-09 04:24:00 JJJJ, I resisted the cordless way but eventually dug deep and got a Logitech MX1000 cordless laser mouse . After trying Genius, several MS including their top of the range at thetime, A4tec and a few others, this is the longest lasting, most comfortable and accurate mouse I have had .

I like that it has a built in battery rather than changeable ones, although you have to remember to charge it every now an then .

The mouse itself has now been superceded by another model, but I believe you can still get the 1000 at vastly reduced cost to what I paid .

One thing is to give them a test run in a shop before you purchase .

477324 2006-08-09 08:33:00 I use a logitech wireless keyboard and mouse combination after having used the microsoft wireless k/b and mouse.

The difference here is that the logitech effort has a charger for the mouse and you do not have to put batteries in for it. Keyboard you do but I have had this for 4 months now and have not had to put any batteries in so far.

3100 model cost around $200 but I am more than happy.
