477021 2006-08-10 18:38:00 Interesting Joe . Had the impression that petrol in the USA was still much cheaper than here . Is the $4 mark high end or is it close to what you'd consider a normal price? What do you pay in California?

First . . . let's define normal:

I take it to mean that it is something to be expected, derived from consistancy and a bankable slow variation in escalation .

We EXPECT to get hosed/reamed/raped/robbed/insulted

Part 1: HOSED

A US Term to indicate the insertion of any fluid-carrying tube into any body orifice with the intention of injection of the fluid so-carried in the aforementioned tube into the body cavity of the victim .
May also indicate flagellation by a "rubber hose" upon the body and thereabouts of the intended victim without the benefit of leaving visible marks from the blows .

Part 2: REAMED

Again, something along the lines of new portals thru which to bleed . . . . monetarily

Part 3: RAPED

Something that feels good (ask the oil shareholders/stock purveyors) whilst it's being done to someone else .

Part 4: ROBBED

An activity that wrests the holding of something of value (money/gold/first-born male child) from one's own personal control and having that money or product of intercourse, re-sequestered .

Part 5: INSULTED

The act of bullying and denial of physical succor, mental security and fiscal amicability to/of/for the insulted via the insultor .
Example: Notifications of "natural phenomena" and "acts of god" and "enemy activity" in lands of oil production, transportation and futures market shares that are out of bounds of the aforementioned categories .
Blaming hurricanes and tornadoes and rust to the Alaska pipeline are also suspect .

Fuel prices are becoming harder to evaluate . . . it's a paradox of the US taxes .

Federal use taxes, DOT transportation fees and state and local taxes are all figured on the dollar amount of the product, not the gallonage .

If the dollar prices rise, then so do the taxes; the cost per dollar of the fuel, not the actual cost per gallon, (but it actually feels that way) .

Since the US is bankrupt (money-wise, not to mention morally), the raising of monies to operate the government is vital . . . ergo, the higher return rate brought about on the back of the consumers, and the positive cash flow to the federal/state coffers . Living here, I can say that in truth .

The unmitigated bleeding of the constituents (citizens), will soon hit a dry well, so to speak .

$4 . 00/galon is twice what we expect to pay . . . any more is lying to the public .

They tell us that this is based on 2006 dollars, and that if we correct for inflation, we are paying only $0 . 85/gallon . They also cite this is figured on the 1965 dollar .

Back then, gas really cost 24 . 9 cents/gallon, not counting "gas wars" when the price got below 11 . 9 cents/gallon!

Diesel costs about 15% higher than gasoline . . . and that's just WRONG!!!!
