It was doing an Avast scan when I went out to bring the washing in, now the screen is completely black. I turned it off and then on again, but still nothing. It's plugged in and the power supply is turned on, and you can see the backlights and hear it running, but no display. How do I start it in safe mode if I can't see anything? I vaguely remember you press certain keys at a certain time, but how do I know when that certain time is?!!! Tried hitting F8 while screen was blank but nothing has happened - tried several times. Laptop is only a few months old, had no problems until I installed Avast today - any reason to think that could be behind the problem? Well, that's weird. I could see the power backlight still flashing even though I had turned the laptop off, so I hit the enter key and it all sprang to life! I haven't changed any settings, but wonder if it's in some kind of hibernation/sleep mode? Will go in and check. Hope it is something simple! Doh, went into power options and found it was set to go into sleep mode when the power button was pressed! Now who on earth thought that would be a good idea? Changed that and also found it was set to go to sleep after 15 minutes... never realised as I had never not used it for more than a few minutes... yes, I was born blonde! |

LOL, been caught with that before......yeah, depending on your surfing habits, you may not require a firewall, windows does have a basic one....it depends on what sites you go to, how good your real time protection is and how often you do checks..... I'm not so fond of comodo at the moment, but havent anything esle so havent bothered... |

| 707712 | 2008-09-25 05:24:00 | At long last, after trying in vain for months to follow instructions regarding file sharing, SolMiester has done it! Yay, I have just created a shared file on the PC and opened it on the laptop! :clap Big smiles all round, been wanting to do that for ages but everyone I asked either didn't know how to do it or they gave me so much information I got swamped. I have shared files, woo hoo! Thanks so much, I KNEW it had to be simple, it's just the explanation (until now) has been anything but. I don't surf dodgy sites and have been using the Windows one until now. Would that still allow file sharing? Just checked and it does, double yay! |

| 707713 | 2008-09-25 08:11:00 | Normally if you have a network already setup comodo will find it and ask if you want to use (keep) it setup during the installation process. When I rebuilt this machine though I found comodo would not work with the atheros NIC on new Asus mobo's so went back to Zone alarm but just changed again as re subscribed to the mag and got Eset security for a year free | gary67 (56) | ||
