1431469 2017-02-01 06:40:00 Hi,

I have an Acer Aspire Timeline U laptop running Win 7.

When you power off, it shuts down, but the blue light (battery I assume) stays illuminated and the fan keeps running flat out until the battery dies.

Went online and followed a number of suggestions such as default set the boot order, a series of adjustments to the power settings etc. Nothing worked so I did a factory reset (which took hours by the time I reloaded everything). The problem fixed until all of the updates were complete and the FRIKIN:devil problem has returned.

So I decided to unplug the battery so I could just 'pull the plug' after shutdown, but then the laptop refused to boot with the battery unplugged.

PLEASE!!! can someone assist in fixing this issue. I am getting some grief over this.

Cheers, Apo

1431470 2017-02-01 08:27:00 Is Mcafee on it?? If it is uninstall it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1431471 2017-02-01 18:22:00 Hi Speedy,

I searched for Mcafee in add/remove programs but its not listed.
Then when I searched 'Mcafee' I see "Mcafee anti-theft" is loaded. It in Program Files/Preload/Mcafee Anti-Theft. I can't find this in add/remove programs. There is no uninstall option. Can you tell me how to do this please.
I would be STOKED if the fail to shut down problem was as simple as removing this!!!!

Thanks Speedy, Apo

1431473 2017-02-01 18:51:00 I assume the BIOS is up to date. Can you tell me how to check please, even a link I can follow, a link that aligns with this laptop?

The "U" is just part of the model name, but yes, its a M3 Series 581TG

Sorry bro, I gota bail off to work but will check back tonight. I really appreciate your help.

1431475 2017-02-02 06:41:00 My BIOS is currently running V1.08 12/5/2012.

I have been online and found the update process and will do that tomorrow night.

Thanks for your help. Hoping this will fix the situation. Cheers, Apo

1431477 2017-02-02 20:02:00 Just a thought, I haven't read right through the replies but have you removed all peripherals? Flash drive, printers, wireless mouse receiver etc and then tested?

The other thing you could try is disabling fast boot.

1431478 2017-02-11 19:05:00 Did all the things suggested here and the problem persisted so I took it to a computer tech. He said it was the battery, that it was old and faulty. Battery replaced and problem fixed. Pretty annoying really, something so simply but I didn't consider this.

I admire you people you work with/fit computers... they are demons in disguise :-)
