1429828 2016-12-14 21:42:00 Anyone here bought a 3d printer kitset ?

I'm considering buying a TEVO Tarantula , just for a bit of fun as a techy hobby toy
only $US225 , thats about my price limit on what will be a toy :-)
www.3dprintersbay.com

I know these cheap kits need alot of effort to build, debug & setup, but thats part of the fun of a build
I dont PC game anymore , so have spare time for another techy hobby .

Anyone else here with a 3D printer ?
any usefull hints & tips, eg where you buy good filament , what youve made with it
any issues with fumes when printing?

cheers

1429829 2016-12-14 23:27:00 I used to build prusa ones from scratch way cheaper could build them for $400 or less. But I got out of it when all the kits came out. There really isn't much you can make on them that is useful. Get your filament from Vic Oliver best supply And quality gary67 (56)

From what I've researched (through Prof G) the assembly and setup part, for most kitsets, is more an art than a mechanical assembly process.
A very steep learning curve.

Only the electronics as my step son used to build the boards from scratch, building the actual printers was dead easy .

1429833 2016-12-15 07:58:00 Article I read recently from a tech blog I follow: "Why You'll never buy a 3D printer" (www.computerworld.com) Article suggests a lack of real use for consumer existence for the cheaper models and tentatively for advanced Engineering- Medical-Aerospace Company applications. Also used at educational institutes using models >5 grand and much higher. kahawai chaser (3545)
1429834 2016-12-15 10:39:00 Like most things, the cheap ones have the sole virtue of being cheap in initial cost.
For value, these are probably the worst available (although for the unwary there are very expensive units that are just as worthless).

1429835 2016-12-15 17:36:00 They had a value when I was building them made and sold about 10 then sold my own one as well. gary67 (56)
1429836 2016-12-15 21:18:00 Ive seen some photos fantastic quality prints on very cheap kitsets. and some crappy prints
Still not sure Id get US$225 worth of usable prints out of it though, thats all thats holding me back. The build would be the best part , a nice holiday project
Im sure I'd get most of my $ back when I decided to sell it, judging by prices they sell for on trademe

Dont see the need for alot of plastic vases though :)

1429837 2016-12-17 09:05:00 For a much bigger outlay (around $US 8995) I can see a lot of possibilities with this machine!! www.youtube.com Laggard (17509)
