Oxalic acid is the best bleach for wood or leather, but buy it in powder form, 'cause as a liquid it has a very short shelf life . Sodium hydroxide is dangerous but is a very good bleach too . . That's lye . |

I seen the entire process at NZ Kinleith pulp mill, where wood logs/chips are converted to paper (Kraft liner). Wood chips are boiled in a 300 million dollar 4 story high massive vessel pot(s) (continuous digester) to break down wood to pulp - then converted to linerboard (kraft paper). Many chemical - moisture/barrier properties/reactions of wood are not dissimilar from paper. We used to design and test simulate wood products from heavy duty paper substitutes. We trialed bulk bins (mega flute). coffins, pallets, vertical wardrobes, etc fabricated from paper. Never did decking though. I reckon because of potential conflict with the wood products division at the time. Entirely possible though, cheap and easy. maybe easily replace/discard a new "paper" deck every few months. Jigsaw lock and throw out. Spray paint it. Coat it. Tear it out to replace. Rather than be stuck with the same wooden deck forever. |
