Yes I did. I was referring specifically to Excel, not office in general.
I can simulate his error with that unchecked, but not with it checked. That's why I asked

No


In excel options/advanced, under display, is 'Disable hardware graphics acceleration' checked?
It wasn't but I turned it on and restarted Excel,
No difference.

You could also try disabling Animate controls and elements inside windows, which is a Performance Option which affects all programs. Maybe there is a registry way to do it just for Office if you don't want to do it globally.
