2017-01-22 20:25:00 | Would need to understand this "tries to". That !!!!! tell us EXACTLY what happens also "About every 2 to 6 months it won’t start up" No wonder the tech cant fix it. If it only happens 2-6 times PER YEAR :) It sounds like the tech is trying everything reasonable, if the tech cant see the fault, he cant fix it . There wont be anything in the logs either, as no log entry if Win doesnt start. It could also be 100% software related , we dont know exactly whats happening could be a hybernate/sleep/fast start issue, could be monitor issue, could be windowsupates causing a startup delay that gets mistaken for a fault.

2017-01-22 21:11:00 | Windows 10.1 is the OS, use to be windows 8.1 That on its own can be a problem. Seen plenty of computers that have upgraded from an earlier version to W10 cause all sorts of weird problems, wipe the drive and install from fresh and problem solved. As 1101 Posted, could be many things causing it,and good on the tech for trying, intermittent problems are a pain. Just going by the fact the type of hardware components being changed its not hardware related. It could be something else like a case causing problems. Had one like that years ago, took ages to locate the problem. Had plenty of Computers do similar, and unless you have the computer in front of you it sometimes is impossible to solve, especially if a fault cant be replicated. Sometimes an experienced tech can spot the problem just by seeing the computer playing up. Got one here at the moment, while the person did describe the startup fault perfectly, it wasn't till it was actually seen the awh-ha moment came. :) The problem in this case was older AMD Graphics. Generally electrical problems don't take 2-6 months to show with intermittent problems , if there's something wrong in that department its a lot more regular.

2017-01-23 00:55:00 | Sorry I could not answer earlier, the computer kept freezing. Windows 10.1 has not been clean installed. When the technician first installed windows 8.1 the power went off half way through the installation, I wonder whether that was part of the problem because it was playing up with windows 8.1 as well. I will give him a ring and suggest he does a clean install, will let you know how I get on. | kinloch (14004) | |
2017-01-23 01:16:00 | What you described, about shutting down. Could be a Memory Problem, could also be a Hard Drive problem. UNLESS the power went off Means a actual Power Cut. Had that happen, real fun with fingers crossed the UPS will keep going long enough to supply power until the Computer can be shut down safely. :)

2017-01-23 01:46:00 | . . . . . . the computer kept freezing . . . . . . . . . . the power went off half way through the installation, . . . . . . it was playing up with windows 8 . 1 as well . that sounds like an unstable system for sure . I suggest you start logging/writing down the issues as they happen, and be exact and unambiguous with the description . eg " the power went off" could mean a power cut, a power cable came loose, or did you mean it simply shut itself down for no reason ? if the tech misinterprets what you tell him, everybody looses :) Clean install is a good 1st step . Also try a new power cable, plugged into a different wall socket , and NOT plugged into a power multibox . I would say that if its never worked properly, despite several attempts to fix it, you shouldnt have to pay to have it fixed . "the power went off half way through the installation" Did that happen at the techs workshop, at at your home ? Did this happen when new, or when the tech was doing repairs ?

2017-01-23 02:47:00 | It was a power cut or outage all of taupo involved. | kinloch (14004) | |
