1430294 2016-12-28 07:51:00 I am doing about 15K a year. The general internal condition of the red car is better than the silver (higher k)

My major problem now is that the Nissan couldn't be started now (even if I could start it, I don't think I will have the confidence to drive it to the dealer which is about 20km away. My original intention was to trade-in the Nissan for the Toyota.

Give me some suggestions, please. My mind is quite blank now.

Cheers

1430295 2016-12-28 08:17:00 What happens when you disconnect the battery for a minute or so?

This can clear the ECU but the problem will reoccur but give you enough time maybe to get to the Nissan dealer

1430296 2016-12-28 09:51:00 Will leave how to sort out the Nissan problem for tomorrow when I have a clearer mind.

Now, about the 'new' Toyota Corolla, is it still necessary to get a pre-purchase inspection even it is a 'Signature' range vehicle?

1430297 2016-12-28 10:39:00 Test with multi-meter. I once had cut-out no start issues with my 93 Nissan Avenir. The fuel pump was slowly dying. I replaced it myself - but after doing a bit of multi-meter diagnostics. Checking for 12 Volts going to the pump and doing the voltage drop test (goo.gl)for positive and negative side of the circuit. All tested good. But resistance of the pump increased beyond spec (of about 2.5 ohms) to 15 ohms on the 3rd key start. Why? Not fulling up with fuel - I was running low on fuel for several weeks - eventually burning out the pump as it needs to cool in the petrol. I think Surfer Joe mentioned that was the reason of failure.

But if replaced as you say, wondering if it's a intermittent fault with the main/fuel relay. See here (www.nissanversaforums.com) for idea to test. Ignition Switch failure symptoms (www.yourmechanic.com) - which can cause stalling - start issues was another part I had to replace.

1430298 2016-12-28 18:17:00 Thanks, kahawai chaser for your technical advice. I don't think that I have the ability/capability to perform all those tests. :) bk T (215)
1430299 2016-12-28 19:13:00 I had an ex-taxi once. Had done 250,000 odd when I bought it.
Corolla....

Sons Corolla had done 418,000 when we sold it. Motor going just fine, no oil burning etc.
