708094 2008-09-27 01:15:00 Hi i have an Inno3D 9800GT and i wanted to record Crysis through fraps. I put down the resolution to 800x600 but it doesn't seem to have an effect on my FPS? So i can't record anything without it lagging heavily.

What could be the problem here?

Specs:
GPU: Inno3D 9800GT 1GB
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz
RAM: 4GB
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower 750W
RES: 1680x1050

You put the res down in the game or via your desktop?
What other settings are being used ingame?

708096 2008-09-27 18:53:00 Just High Settings (not very high - Crysis/Crysis WarHead/Crysis Wars)

and im using the ingame settings nothing on my desktop. and i switch off full screen ingame settings for recording. It works like a charm on call of duty 4 but not these 3 games.

708097 2008-09-27 20:32:00 Exactly what fps do you get? pctek (84)
708098 2008-09-30 02:01:00 SORRY FOR THE REALLY LATE REPLY IV'E BEEN STUCK FOR TIME :(

im getting 22 - 30 FPS . I have also edited CVARS in the crysis config folder . It has helped me gain some FPS 26 - 37 but slows down to 17 - 25 FPS in the snow parts . But i know it can go up to 30 - 40 (in the snowy levels which lag more) but it just wont do it .

I have also Tried overclocking my card IT WORKS! but after a while or just after it loads the game the screen goes black . . . . Its fine OC'ed while playing Steam games (Valve to be more exact . . . the only steam games i got like TF2, CSS, DOD etc . ) But on Crysis, Crysis: Warhead, Assassin's Creed, COD 4, NFS Pro Street, UT3 etc . . . it goes black .

I close it with ALT+F4 and in my system tray it says that the display driver encountered problems and has successfully recovered . Why? I saw a video on youtube with a guy who OverClocked the exact same card as mine (Inno3D 9800GT 1GB) and it worked like a charm . He had same OS, CPU and Resolution!

708099 2008-09-30 19:37:00 No chip is exactly the same, just because someone else got good results with the same setup, doesn't mean you will.

I suspect the reason your comp is screwing out on those games is because they actually tax your video card, unlike steam games (my comp gets around 200fps to my memory in steam games). I really suggest if you're having blackouts that you clock it back to stock, unless you plan on adding custom cooling to it. Are you monitoring temps?

Thats all you can expect for Crysis .
Ignore it and pay more attention to performance in your other games .

You are probably overclocking the card too much, it makes it run hotter you know .

708101 2008-09-30 20:41:00 I would say the guy who OC the same model card as you, probably has good air flow in the case. I dont think the 9800GT exhaust their hot air thru the back of the case, which means under load the inside of your case could well be getting too hot.
You dont say which O/S you are using....if Vista, you are probably using DX10 API which is quite a bit more taxing than DX9 API which is on XP. Not sure if you can change DX versions, you could on Half Life.

708102 2008-10-01 11:08:00 Well i OC'ed the card to 967/1667/950 i left it in this mode in idle for a few hours and it didn't burn my hand. It has quite a bit of cooling. Yes im using VISTA. And yes there are dx9 and dx10 options. jaymak (14211)
708103 2008-10-01 18:36:00 and i switch off full screen ingame settings for recording.

Do you mean you are setting the game to run in a window? If so, this is more taxing for the system than running fullscreen. But FRAPS should be able to record it in fullscreen.

Try running system detect on the game - then tweaking the settings.

Also, try here (www.tweakguides.com) for tweaking Crysis with some explanation of what each setting's general effect is on performance and appearance.

You will also get quite a FPS drop in Vista over XP with any recent game.
