708033 2008-09-26 09:10:00 Not sure if i should be posting this here but i need some help deciding some upgrade decisions

Specs

Excel ATX-400W
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+ 2.1GHz
NVIDIA Sparkle GeForce 8600 GT 512mb ddr2
2GB ram

Basicly all i need my computer is for games and im thinking of upgraded by its poor performances in bioshock without even being on high settings, i known my computer is let down somewhere i just cant decide if its my cpu or gpu, i dont no how much cpu effects games but i no that mine could use a upgrade and my graphics card is a bad brand and the ddr2 version, just dont no which to upgrade and to would make my games faster

708034 2008-09-26 10:48:00 Gaming performance will lay largely on the resolution v gpu power, so 1st question if you are on a budget, is native res for LCD or optimum res for CRT.
What do you have?

All 3 of the above. Which would mean changing the motherboard too. Intel out-performs AMD these days.

In order of importance:
Graphics
PSU (because the GPU will need it)
CPU

I have a viewsonic 17" inch LCD which im told is meant to run on 1280x1024 but if i play on that i have to put the graphics on low to get decent gameplay

I am on a bit of a budget of around 350, so not too keen geting a new motherboard, ASUS M2N-E SLI is the one i have now

k if i were to get a new graphics card ive been thinking of upgrading to 8800gt or 9800gt but ive been told they have a high power supply usage so i would have to upgrade my PSU as well is that true

Yes you will need a minimum of 500W.
