479460 2006-08-19 11:15:00 I'm sick and tired of the N . Z Govt playing the ignorance card . :groan:

I'll have to quote Enenim: Would the real Government please stand up!?,please stand up!? .

History of our drongo Govt: Shunned the last Americas cup in terms of funding .
Result: Lost cup to Swiss .
Effect: Loss of 1 billion tourist dollars for pending world cup 2007

Currently they have only offered a paltry 20 million for the Eden Park redevelopment . ***!? Pleeeese *shakes head* :yuck:

How F^cking ignorant can you get?? . That will pay for playing turf expansion . And thats all .

Why not get real and show "good faith" like any other New Zealander would? .

This means going dollar for dollar with the Eden Park Trust Board . So if they raise 150 million, then the Govt stumps up with the other 150 million . Add that to the 20 million already offered and you have the total of 320 million it requires for full funding .

The 150 million that the Eden Park Trust needs to aquire could come from sponsorship, corporate options and of course Auckland City Council . This would mean that the local ratepayers may only need to pay around 75 million which is substantially less than the full 300 million required . :)

If Cloumbia and the Ukraine can afford new sports stadiums . Then so can we . We are NOT third world! .

Check them out here: . stadiumguide . com/future . htm" target="_blank">www . stadiumguide . com

The Govt of N . Z needs to wake up to itself!! . Or I'm going down there to give them all one hell of a ***** Slap!!

479461 2006-08-19 23:13:00 So let me see if I read this right... you are wanting the NZ tax payer to fund something else in Aucland that 90% of us will never use?
Is it not enough we have to pay for their roads, supply their electricity etc etc?

479463 2006-08-20 01:39:00 As an Aucklander who despises the thuggery of Rugby I would really resent having my over inflated rates to go toward doing anything for Eden Park. However, asking the rest of the country to stump up the cash for what is, in essence, a private club is appalling. Rugby is no longer an amateur sport if the NZRFU (or whatever it's called) can't afford the upgrade then we don't need these thugs to play their silly game here. All this talk about how much the Rugby World Cup is worth to the country.......yeah right!
Personally I would like to see the stadium moved to Hamilton.

Personally I would like to see the stadium moved to Hamilton. You'll obviously have had this argument before so I want go into it ad infintum. But basically rugby is part of our heritage. Just because you dislike the game doesn't mean that a lot of NZ'ers don't get a lot of national pride from the successes of the All Blacks.

NZ is the best in the world at this sport, so it's only natural that the people help pay for the improvement of its facilities.

And of course the country as a whole benefits from the expenditure of foreigners when they visit us to watch matches.

As for the "thugs" comment, it takes a decent amount of skill, finnesse and inteligence to play at top level. The players play against each other - often way stronger in individual positions - it's not like these tough guys make a habit of beating up on far weaker defencless citizens... that's what thuggery is.

I'm pretty sure you prefer nancy-boy games like soccer, or needle-craft.

479466 2006-08-20 03:41:00 So you want me to pay to upgrade a thug stadium in Auckland? I'm already paying for one in Christchurch. :(

The "Government" hasn't got money to subsidise the RFU. It uses our money. The "Council" doesn't have money to subsidize the RFU. It uses the ratepayers' money.

Let those who profit from Rugby games (and yacht races) pay for the facilities they want. Only $320 millions? That sort of thing soon starts to add up to real amounts of money.

479467 2006-08-20 04:05:00 If the power goes out during the 2007 world cup, I will be saying told you so, the govt should have spent that money fixing up NZ/ Auckland power grid!. stu161204 (123)

Same.I don't like rugby.I find it unebearable to watch rugby.Tackling the person until they break a part of their body.I don't call this sport at all.I feel it as violence.

I enjoy watching soccer more. There's skills involve with the ball and you can watch and relax.

All I see everytime in rugby is that you hold a rugby ball and get ram to death while trying to score a goal.

I wouldn't risk my life being tackled over just to score a goal.

During my high school year we had tackle rugby as one of the activity and oh man my friend had a broken arm.

Luckily he didn't break his neck

NZ is good at this sport but some people like me wouldn't like to spend money on redeveloping the eden park because of rugby.

I just don't like rugby... :xmouth:

479469 2006-08-20 05:04:00 You endanger not only your life but others too with rugby . Why is it call a sport?

Any sport is dangerous but I feel rugby causes deliberate pain

Can anybody tell me why people enjoy rugby so much?

I don't understand . . .

What I feel a sport is: Its something enjoyable to watch . Relaxing . Fun and also a hobby . When you watch it you would feel like you want to get involve

But rugby is something that you will get involve and hope you won't end up in hospital the day after
