| 478438 | 2006-08-14 07:56:00 | What is the big deal about bikers skipping traffic? Yet again I had a ute try to block my path right after a van made room for me on the north western, does anyone know why? :annoyed: I think it's jealously that bikers dont have to wait or spend thousands annually for gas, but no-one is stopping car drivers from getting bikes. They pay for themselves in petrol savings, fight congestion and air pollution (one person on a bike vs. one person in a car), and lessen the expense in an accident. Bikers can use bus lanes, and do use parking lanes, between lanes, and that gap between the fast lane and median barrier ;) The only real drawback is safety. I seriously dont see the issue, I choose to ride an economical, easy to park and faster than your ford/holden sportbike, at the risk of greivous bodily harm/death. I will use my car for cargo/heavy rain, but cant park at the university nor afford to sit on the motorway for 2 hours or more each day. Why block me or open your door when I'm on my bike? Technically it's assault, and I just go the other way around your parked car :illogical Also, when was the last time a drunk rider killed someone in a head on? |

Opening the door seems a bit wierd though - why risk damaging your door for a motorcycle. I brave Dunedin's hills and frosts on a mountain bike myself so accordingly I should be able to ride like these guys (www.youtube.com) :D |

| 478440 | 2006-08-14 08:44:00 | i was talking to a female biker one day and she said that female car drivers are the worse. she had them drive on the other side of the road in an attempt to stop her overtaking. in comparison most guys pull over and check the bike out ;) the only thing i hate with bikers is the ones that love to shoot the gap. i've nearly squished a few against the median barrier, bridges and trucks. |

Opening the door seems a bit wierd though - why risk damaging your door for a motorcycle . [/URL] :D It is legal . Besides that any driver who cuts off someone on a bike needs baseball bat therapy . And for gos sake if a driver is so inept that they over react and cause an accident because they have to share the road with a motorcycle then they need their lisence revoked . |

| 478443 | 2006-08-14 09:39:00 | I sold my bike a few years ago. One of my biggest regrets as i miss it. But having a bike is risky business, not because of the riders but generally the other traffic. Well, thats what I found anyway. | rob_on_guitar (4196) | ||
| 478444 | 2006-08-14 09:41:00 | Personally I don't really have an big issue with bike's shooting up the middle or to the left as long as it's in slow moving traffic or up to the lights etc . I only have a problem when it's done at high speed & or when the gap really isn't big enough . What does piss me off is cyclists that treat traffic lights as give ways :annoyed: There is a place for them on the road but IMO only if they abide by all the road rules like everyone else . . . . go across on a red light when it's clear but expect to ride as close to the middle when the cars catch up :waughh: Cheers KiwiMR2 |

| 478445 | 2006-08-14 10:00:00 | No problems here with motorcyclists 'shooting the gap' - very often I'll make room for motorcyclists so I can see where they are! In a word the ute driver is a moron. As for bicyclists who ride in the middle of the road.....now that's a different story. | andrew93 (249) | ||
| 478446 | 2006-08-14 10:48:00 | I have no problem, with them, I want to get my bike licence, but my mum won't let me :annoyed: I just let them go past and if it is a nice ride, I drool :D :p *Grumbles at mother* :p |

I dunno, I've had to near change my boxers a couple o times when a big ass duc biposta or tlr 1000 has whipped by at near the speed of sound in between me and the oncomings ...but damn those things look AND sound fine when theyre on song :D Unfortunately there are those who just cant appreciate a fine piece of machinery I guess  |
