478112 2006-08-13 00:47:00 I am new to the forum...Hi

Just wanted to know a lil bit about tv tuners...
I live in NZ, and we dont have free to air digital tv, so would i be able to pause, record...minipulate live 'analogue' tv?
and my second question is..would a tv tuner be able to pick up digital signals?
via a third party software or something...So I could watch cable tv for free... :D
I missed the whole of last seasons football..(even the WC!!!)..I cannot live without my 'fix', week in week out...Missing the EPL is like suicide...
The prices Sky Tv offer is outrageous man!! :yuck:

cheers, any help would be much appreciated

478113 2006-08-13 00:55:00 Hi RedDevil, and welcome to PressF1.

Helping you steal Sky is against the forum rules, so I can't help you there.

However, general TV tuner enquiries aren't. To answer your first question, with the software bundled with most TV tuners, you will be able to pause, rewind and also record "live" analog TV. You can also get 3rd party (free) software, such as GB-PVR - actually developed by a NZer - which provides a nice interface for basically creating a TiVo setup on your computer.

To answer your second question, you can get "Digital" TV Tuners, however as we don't have a digital terrestrial FTA signal yet, you'd be better off waiting till you can be certain that the particular model you buy will work with the new broadcast systems. Even if you had one, you still can't steal Sky due to their encryption, and if it was possible, we aren't allowed to help you do so on this forum.

If you want Sky, then pay for it.

Yup free channels u can record and then burn them to dvd, if u want.

Dont know about manipulate, but once u record it, u can edit whatever once u record it. Before u burn it.

If there were a way, telling u on this forum is illegal. Its against forum rules.

Digital isnt free, u pay for it. Until these new channels for the free to air Digital TV come out, then u have to pay a $200 decoder for it.

No. Even if u could u would most probably need a decoder / dish.
