479046 2006-08-18 04:41:00 The Q&A's are rather worrying. I will have to check if my electricity has fever when I get home.

LOL :D

479047 2006-08-18 04:55:00 I too have devised a way to save electricity.

Turn off appliance
unplug appliance at wall

There you go, that will be $50, all payments to be made into my swiss bank account.

479051 2006-08-18 17:05:00 There has been a lot of discussion of electricity saving devices in the past, and I crystal-ball that there's gonna be a lot more coming this way soon as the cost of liquified dinosaurs becomes steeper and steeper .

Quite frankly, I am not a snake-oil salesman, nor am I a great user of mystery oils, chemicals and acupuncture .

I DO find interesting the fact that NZ is just now hearing about energy conservation measures on the home front, albeit shams and charletons proffering devices to hit back at the power companies . Perhaps we yanks have tarred-n-feathered all of them outta Dodge City and they are moving your way .

Anyway . . . . the subject of Green Plugs as an energy saving device hit the hightpoint here in the US a few years ago . . . before the Energy-Star® designs of appliances from freezers to dishwashers to shavers .

These devices were intended to remove the heat-producing start-up spikes in voltage and amps draw of electric motors just after coming off full stall .

In actuality, they seemed like a good idea: remove the REMF from the PEP wave form by 30 . 3% and thereby reduce the load on the service supply . . . ergo allowing longer ramp-up time and decreasing dollars-per-kilowatt computations to the average homeowner .

I submit an article (already in progress) about the findings . . . . that quite sincerly sound like they were written by one of our older and more logical members here on F1 . . . . . see for yourself if you can decipher the writing style and logical sense of the tome . . . I will make my own interpretation later if so asked .

The article: . net/electr/green_plug . html" target="_blank">yarchive . net

. . . . and to that same person, should they recognize their own prosaic style, I submit this intriguing post site with . . . er . . . . posts from all over the world . . . . scientific, wizard-ly, pseudo-wise, altruistic and self-effacing: . scienceagogo . com/message_board2/" target="_blank">www . scienceagogo . com (just as a sidebar! :) )

479052 2006-08-19 01:02:00 Of course your grandmother probably told you to always have a light bulb in the socket otherwise the electricity leaks away
Granny was absolutely correct bonzo. If you don't believe me, take a bulb out, switch the power back on then put your finger in the empty lamp socket.

You will immediately feel the power leaking out.

This feeling will be followed very closely by the feeling of your pants filling rapidly with wettish substances (condensed electricity). Shortly after that, the weight of the condensed electricity in your pants will cause you to fall off the chair or ladder.

Whether you survive this experiment or not will depend on how much electricity is condensed and how far you fall.

Cheers

LOL

Anyway I was just thinking about this again (yes I know it's a very old thread)

But it got me thinking about this device, and I came to think that what it probably is, some simple kind of power factor correction unit such as those in a computer PSU.

Doubt it would save anyone money but it might have some kind of truth behind it
